Director, Data and Analytics – AI Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Lead the implementation of a comprehensive and substantial Data and Analytics portfolio.

• Create and execute a strategic roadmap to upgrade outdated data and analytics systems utilizing Cloud and AI technologies.

• Facilitate the development of data domains and products for reporting, data science, AI/ML, and analytics stakeholders.

• Ensure that data architecture and solutions adhere to enterprise-wide standards for Data, AI, and Analytics.

• Convey strategy, progress updates, and results to various stakeholders through thought leadership and presentations.

• Develop AI data pipelines that integrate structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data for AI and Agentic solutions.

• Establish standardized processes for AI data engineering and maintain data quality and compliance.

• Supervise the design, development, and upkeep of data pipelines, warehouses, lakes, and reporting systems.

• Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team comprised of business data analysts, data engineers, and release train engineers.

• Advocate for improvements in developer productivity throughout the data management lifecycle.

• Explore and implement AI-driven pipeline generation, DevOps methodologies, and automated data quality frameworks.

• Assess emerging data engineering and AI/ML technologies, create prototypes, perform experiments, and recommend tools.

• Define and implement frameworks for Enterprise Data Governance and Data Quality management.

• Oversee the budget and financials for the portfolio.

• Collaborate with Technology, Data, AI Platform, ML Ops, and Architecture teams to shape strategy and tooling.

• Translate actuarial requirements into scalable Snowflake data products and AI-powered analytics solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8-10 years of experience in data engineering, analytics solution delivery, actuarial analytics, or similar data-intensive positions.

• 3+ years of experience in supporting actuarial, insurance, pricing, reserving, modeling, underwriting, portfolio management, or financial analytics use cases.

• Mastery level skills in data engineering and architecture.

• Extensive knowledge of data architecture patterns, data warehouses, data integration, data lakes, data domains, data products, business intelligence, cloud technology capabilities, and data governance.

• Technical proficiency in LLMs, AI platforms, prompt engineering, LLM optimization, RAG architectures, and vector database technologies.

• Experience in enabling AI for analytics use cases, including analytic agents, natural language analytics, governed knowledge bases, forecasting, monitoring, deep-dive analysis, and decision-support solutions for actuaries.

• Ability to design, implement, and oversee Snowflake-based data pipelines, transformations, validations, and analytic consumption patterns.

• Demonstrated experience in creating modern actuarial data products, governed consumption layers, semantic layers, reusable metrics, data quality controls, and analytics-ready models.

• Proven capability in leveraging Snowflake-native and cloud-integrated functionalities for actuarial workflows, predictive model outputs, monitoring, dashboards, and AI-enabled analytics solutions.

• Capacity to transition exploratory actuarial solutions into sustainable, production-ready assets with ownership, monitoring, documentation, and support expectations.

• Strong understanding of actuarial metrics and analytical concepts such as loss ratio, frequency, severity, rate adequacy, modeled indications, emergence monitoring, renewal health, and book assessment is preferred.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with actuaries, data scientists, analytics teams, engineering teams, and business stakeholders.

• Experience with Agile at Scale and iterative development across cross-functional teams.
