Director, Business Transitions

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Collaborate directly on active transactions with Mercer's integrated advisory team, serving as the deal-side subject matter expert in tax, estate, and financial planning.

• Engage with clients' bankers, attorneys, and accountants to critically assess deal structures and translate deal mechanics into practical planning decisions.

• Analyze after-tax proceeds in real-time as deal terms change, considering structure, earnouts, rollover equity, and tax implications.

• Assist internal prospect deal teams in navigating transactions and strengthening client relationships.

• Connect with business owners before, during, and immediately after transactions to ensure the planning strategy aligns with deal execution.

• Ensure a seamless transition to the client's dedicated Mercer advisor upon closing.

• Build and manage a network of referrals, including investment bankers, M&A attorneys, QoE firms, and deal accountants.

• Cultivate referral relationships through outreach, personal interactions, and long-term business development efforts.

• Represent the Business Transitions practice at industry events, speaking engagements, and panel discussions.

• Work with regional advisory teams to identify clients nearing liquidity events and coordinate resources effectively.

• Support business owner prospects through custodial partners, digital advertising, and referral programs; enhance and finalize relationships.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8 to 15 years of experience directly involved in M&A transactions.

• Proven ability to comprehend and communicate deal structures, valuations, and transaction mechanics.

• Direct experience with or advising privately held business owners, founders, or executives.

• Proficient in navigating various deal dynamics, tax implications, and planning strategies.

• Strong relationship-building instincts with the ability to foster trust over extended periods.

• Comfortable with ambiguity, deal complexities, and scenarios that diverge from the plan.

• Series 65 certification required, or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire.

• Bachelor’s degree required.

• MBA, JD, or an advanced degree is preferred.

• Willingness to travel within your market and occasionally across the country.

• Availability during standard business hours from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.

• Capability to work in a professional office environment or a dedicated home office setup.
