This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Create a variety of high-quality, timely, and platform-appropriate videos for Newsweek’s website, social media outlets, and YouTube.
• Identify, source, and produce compelling visual content that enhances Newsweek’s journalistic offerings.
• Quickly respond to breaking and trending news while anticipating visual needs.
• Monitor agency feeds, official sources, social media, and additional platforms for footage and emerging visual narratives.
• Edit videos in formats led by reporters, voiceovers, captions, and soundbites.
• Accurately verify, label, credit, and ingest footage into Newsweek’s systems.
• Optimize videos for format, length, pacing, framing, captions, and editorial angles across various platforms.
• Collaborate with the Newsdesk, social team, reporters, and editors on video-centric coverage.
• Exercise editorial judgment and conduct fact-checking to ensure accuracy, fairness, clarity, and journalistic integrity.
• Organize assets and project files, providing handover notes between producers and shifts.
• Meet tight deadlines and adapt flexibly in a fast-paced digital newsroom environment.
• Carry out other reasonable tasks required to fulfill business needs.
• Report directly to the Deputy Managing Editor.
• Experience in producing and editing video for a respected, fast-paced digital newsroom, broadcaster, or media organization.
• Demonstrated ability to identify, source, edit, and publish multiple video stories daily to a high standard.
• Strong news judgment and comprehension of how video enhances digital journalism.
• Proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro or similar professional video-editing software.
• Experience in producing video content for websites, social media platforms, and YouTube.
• Solid understanding of video formats and the ability to adapt content for different platforms and audiences.
• Experience in sourcing, verifying, labeling, and crediting footage from agencies, social media, official feeds, and third-party sources.
• Strong skills in scripting, caption-writing, and visual storytelling.
• Ability to work accurately and calmly under tight deadlines, including during significant breaking news events.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
• Capacity to organize assets, manage multiple assignments, and provide clear production handovers.
• Strong understanding of media law, copyright, sourcing best practices, and ethical journalism.
• Desirable: proficiency with Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Canva, Firefly, Flourish, Google Earth Studio, or similar creative tools.
• Desirable: experience in creating motion graphics, maps, data visualizations, or other supporting visual elements.
• Desirable: experience filming original content and arranging remote or in-person interviews.
• Desirable: experience advising reporters on filming, scripting, and gathering materials for video.
• Desirable: familiarity with content management systems, YouTube publishing tools, and social media publishing platforms.
• Desirable: understanding of audience analytics and how performance data can guide video formats and coverage decisions.
