Digital Application Engineer – SSA

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.

📋 Description

• Empower the digital pre-sales team with application knowledge and technical customer support throughout intricate sales opportunities.

• Convert customer challenges into value-oriented digital solutions.

• Collaborate with Digital Sales Executives and Key Account Managers on proposals for upselling the digital portfolio.

• Conduct technical demonstrations, workshops, and proof-of-concept initiatives.

• Relay customer and market technical requirements to Digital Portfolio/Product teams to guide the roadmap.

• Assist in senior and C-level technical engagements with strategic accounts and regulators, including TSA.

• Highlight Smiths Detection’s open-architecture and interoperability capabilities.

• Develop and maintain standardized technical playbooks and materials across various regions.

• Aid in business case development, provide solution pricing input, and prepare contract technical schedules.

• Keep technical opportunity records and handover documentation updated through CRM and governance procedures.

• Track technology trends, competitor architectures, and emerging standards.

• Recognize risks and opportunities within the digital portfolio.

• Focus on strategic aviation pursuits while extending coverage to Ports & Borders, Urban Security, and other target markets.

• Contribute to the onboarding and enablement of digital and technical sales team members.

• Ensure activities adhere to company policies, ethical standards, regulatory requirements, and governance processes.

• Identify technical, operational, and business risks early in the sales process.

• Assist with opportunity qualification.

• Act as a trusted technical advisor during customer interactions, workshops, executive briefings, demonstrations, and industry events.

• Guide customers in understanding best practices and operational use cases for digital solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or a related technical discipline.

• Experience in solutions architecture, network/systems engineering, or technical pre-sales.

• Ideally, a background in security screening, aviation, critical infrastructure, or enterprise software/SaaS.

• Strong understanding of networking, systems integration, and cloud/on-premise deployment models.

• Comfortable working across IT and OT environments.

• Experience in supporting complex, multi-stakeholder tenders and RFPs.

• Knowledge of cybersecurity, cloud solutions, AI-enabled applications, or digital transformation initiatives.

• Familiarity with government procurement and tender processes.

• Willingness to travel to support regional pursuits.

• Ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Strong understanding of Digital/IT technology, procurement processes, and industry regulations.

• Exposure to Aviation, Ports & Borders, and Urban Security market sectors.

• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management capabilities.

• Collaborative mindset with cultural sensitivity and awareness.

• Strong relationship-building skills with both technical and commercial stakeholders.

• Proven ability in matrix and stakeholder management, including working virtually in diverse teams.
