Database Engineer, Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +4 more states.

📋 Description

• Oversee the development and maintenance of the Bank's database technology infrastructure.

• Act as the technical lead for project management, planning, problem-solving, and hardware or software support.

• Offer management reliable, flexible, and cost-efficient technical options and solutions.

• Lead technical teams on designated projects and collaborate throughout the organization.

• Implement, upgrade, and evaluate technical systems that support the Bank's applications.

• Provide consultative advice to associates, management, and business units across various technologies.

• Assign and evaluate the work of other database administrators when leading the team.

• Design and implement data masking and virtualization solutions for development, testing, and QA environments.

• Create masking algorithms, rulesets, and policies for PII, PHI, PCI, and other regulated data types.

• Configure and manage Delphix environments across Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, DB2, Netezza, VSAM, and file masking platforms.

• Incorporate masking and data provisioning into CI/CD pipelines.

• Perform risk assessments of non-production environments and drive corrective actions.

• Monitor, troubleshoot, and enhance masking performance, data consistency, and operational reliability.

• Comprehend and execute dynamic data masking for production environments.

• Collaborate with application owners, developers, DBAs, infrastructure teams, and testers to understand workflows and data usage.

• Educate teams about TLS and data masking technologies, their limitations, tradeoffs, and best practices.

• Provide advice on the onboarding of new applications, platforms, and integrations.

• Create and refine documentation, runbooks, standards, and technical guidance.

• Assist with audits and regulatory inquiries by providing evidence of implementation and control effectiveness.

• Automate the monitoring, testing, and validation of encryption and masking controls.

• Keep track of emerging data protection threats, technologies, and industry practices, and recommend enhancements.

• Mentor junior engineers and operational teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree with 8 years of experience in Database Technologies OR High School Diploma or GED with 12 years of experience in Database Technologies.

• Extensive knowledge of TLS, HTTPS, certificates, PKI, and encryption protocols.

• Practical experience with Delphix data masking and virtualization.

• Comprehensive understanding of relational databases and data classification/masking strategies.

• Familiarity with dynamic data masking.

• Knowledge of cloud environments and Delphix deployment within Azure or AWS.

• Experience integrating security controls into CI/CD and DevOps pipelines.

• Proficient in scripting/automation, including Python, PowerShell, and SQL.

• Awareness of regulatory and compliance frameworks, such as PCI DSS, HIPAA, and GDPR.

• Familiarity with ServiceNow and Jira service requests.

• Ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical and semi-technical audiences.

• Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and the ability to influence without direct authority.

• Collaborative experience across application, infrastructure, security, and compliance teams.

• Risk-based mindset with the ability to balance security needs with business requirements.

• Exceptional documentation, presentation, and knowledge-sharing skills.

• Leadership and mentorship capabilities within technical teams.
