Data Test Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Analyze user stories, interface specifications, data mappings, transformation rules, business guidelines, and source-to-target documentation to determine data testing conditions and acceptance criteria.

• Develop, construct, and uphold data test cases, SQL queries, reconciliation procedures, test datasets, and expected outcomes for SAP S/4HANA and associated applications.

• Ensure the accuracy, completeness, consistency, integrity, referential relationships, formats, transformations, and adherence to business rules across both source and target systems.

• Evaluate data extraction, cleansing, transformation, loading, conversion, and reconciliation processes.

• Confirm migrated data aligns with approved source-to-target specifications.

• Assess inbound and outbound data transactions between SAP S/4HANA, SAP Fiori, Mendix applications, interfaces, and external systems.

• Test for error handling and exception management.

• Record data discrepancies with queries, evidence, expected versus actual results, and conditions for reproducibility.

• Monitor issues until resolution and conduct retests.

• Generate and maintain data test plans, test cases, evidence, traceability, reconciliation outcomes, and data quality reports.

• Collaborate with data engineers, developers, functional analysts, business stakeholders, and integration teams.

• Engage in sprint planning, daily stand-up meetings, retrospectives, and other Agile ceremonies.

• Identify opportunities to enhance data testing methods, reusable SQL validation, automation, reporting, and data quality controls.

⛳️ Requirements

• Active Secret clearance (mandatory).

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).

• At least 5 years of experience in software testing.

• Minimum of 2 years focused on data testing for large-scale enterprise or ERP systems.

• Practical experience with data validation, ETL/ELT testing, source-to-target reconciliation, data migration/conversion testing, and data quality testing.

• Proficient SQL skills for querying, comparing, aggregating, reconciling, and troubleshooting data across relational databases.

• Strong understanding of the SAFe Framework, SDLC, and Agile development methodologies.

• Experience with data profiling, ETL tools, APIs, flat files, XML/JSON, and data comparison or reconciliation utilities.

• Background in testing SAP S/4HANA or similar ERP data, workflows, integrations, interfaces, or migration activities.

• Familiarity with ServiceNow CWM (Collaborative Work Management) or a similar platform.

• Willingness to travel up to 10% as needed.

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, along with excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
