Data Governance Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Oversee the creation and execution of enterprise data governance processes and frameworks.

• Establish roles, responsibilities, and ownership models for data stewardship across key data domains.

• Collaborate with both business and technical stakeholders to determine essential data elements and governance needs.

• Evaluate existing governance practices, identify deficiencies, and propose enhancements.

• Review Enterprise Data Management procedures and set governance standards along with operational protocols.

• Create and sustain data governance playbooks, policies, and guidance for implementation.

• Design and oversee governance roadmaps that align with the organization's data strategy goals.

• Lead workshops and discussions with stakeholders focused on data stewardship, accountability, and the adoption of governance practices.

• Aid in the management of metadata, alignment of data ownership, and the development of governance operating models.

• Work in partnership with data governance, stewardship, and technical teams to promote the execution and acceptance of governance.

• Offer guidance and recommendations on governance as data management capabilities and tools evolve.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5-10+ years of experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Data Stewardship, or related fields.

• Proven experience in designing and implementing data governance frameworks and operational models.

• Strong knowledge of data stewardship, data ownership, metadata management, and data quality principles.

• Familiar with data catalog, metadata management, or governance platforms like Ataccama.

• Experienced in facilitating workshops with stakeholders and building consensus between business and technology teams.

• Capable of converting business needs into scalable governance processes.

• Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management abilities.

• Skilled in creating governance documentation, playbooks, standards, and operating procedures.

• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in a consulting or client-facing setting.

• Willingness to work across U.S. time zones and travel up to once per quarter as required by clients and projects.

• Experience in consulting and/or the utility industry is highly desirable.

• Background in supporting enterprise data management or data governance transformation projects.

• Familiarity with establishing stewardship programs and governance councils.

• Experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or in governance leadership roles within large enterprise environments.
