This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Define the target-state architectures for data lakes/lakehouses, warehouses, and streaming on GCP.
• Establish standards and zones for data ingestion, ELT/ETL processes, and consumption.
• Architect scalable analytics and AI workloads using BigQuery, GCS, Dataproc, and Dataflow.
• Develop canonical data models and implement optimization techniques for BigQuery.
• Execute IAM, CMEK, VPC Service Controls, encryption, DLP, private networking, governance, metadata, lineage, and data-quality controls.
• Ensure adherence to compliance standards such as NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, HIPAA, PCI, and SOC 2.
• Design and implement batch and streaming pipelines utilizing Dataflow, Dataproc, Pub/Sub, and Composer.
• Integrate event-driven architectures through Cloud Functions/Run.
• Collaborate with Data Science teams on Vertex AI pipelines, feature stores, and MLOps practices.
• Enhance the performance, storage, monitoring, logging, KPIs, and costs of BigQuery and GCS.
• Establish standards for coding, Terraform/IaC, CI/CD, and DevSecOps.
• Maintain architectural artifacts, conduct reviews, and provide mentorship to teams.
• Support governed self-service analytics via semantic layers such as Looker.
• Keep architecture blueprints and reference implementations updated.
• Define standards for ingestion, schema evolution, and data retention.
• Review models, pipelines, IaC, and security designs thoroughly.
• Conduct proofs of concept, benchmarks, cost analyses, and create documentation.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen capable of obtaining a Public Trust clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data/Information Systems, or a related field.
• 8–12+ years of experience in data engineering/architecture, with 3–5+ years of cloud data platform architecture, preferably on GCP.
• Proven experience in designing enterprise-grade data lakes, warehouses, and streaming architectures.
• Hands-on expertise with BigQuery, GCS, Dataflow, Dataproc, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Composer.
• Strong knowledge of IAM, CMEK, VPC SC, encryption, DLP, and governance/lineage tools.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance such as FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, HIPAA, PCI, or similar.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities in cross-functional technical initiatives.
• Strong proficiency in ELT/ETL, streaming patterns, schema evolution, CDC, and data modeling.
• Experience with Terraform, CI/CD, Airflow/Composer, automated testing, and Git workflows.
• Proven ability to optimize performance and cost for BigQuery and GCS.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to engage stakeholders effectively.
• Preferred qualifications include GCP professional certifications, experience in federal government or regulated industries, Kubernetes/OpenShift certifications, service mesh, API gateways, multi-cluster strategies, GitOps, SRE, incident response, RCA, Databricks or AWS/Azure equivalents, Vertex AI, feature stores, model registries, MLOps, governance and metadata frameworks, data mesh concepts, and familiarity with third-party tools.
