Controller – Consulting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kansas, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Act as a trusted advisor to entrepreneurial clients by providing consulting, accounting, and tax services.

• Review or prepare financial statements, schedules, reports, journal entries, fixed asset schedules, payroll, and other general accounting tasks.

• Consult with clients on accounting, tax, and business issues, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, cash management, debt management, sales and use tax, and regulatory filings.

• Evaluate staff work and offer feedback to ensure accuracy while supporting professional development.

• Research and document technical accounting and tax matters.

• Coordinate the preparation of income, payroll, sales and use tax, and business license submissions.

• Oversee or assist with client invoicing, accounts payable processing, and ACH transactions.

• Analyze financial data, identify trends, and generate reports for strategic decision-making.

• Track hours by client and project on a daily basis.

• Develop and maintain internal systems, processes, and quality controls.

• Manage budgeting, financial projections, profitability analysis, cash flow modeling, internal control assessments, and tax planning initiatives.

• Oversee, coordinate, and review activities related to assigned clients completed by other staff members.

• Mentor and coach members of the client accounting team.

• Monitor and manage client engagement deadlines, closings, payroll cycles, tax filings, and special projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is required.

• CPA designation is highly preferred.

• At least 2+ years of experience in a Controller role with direct supervisory responsibilities.

• A minimum of 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, encompassing financial statement preparation, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis.

• Experience in a CPA firm is advantageous.

• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and other cloud-based accounting software is preferred.

• Experience with nonprofit accounting is a plus.

• Strong knowledge in accounting and finance, including expertise in reconciliations, monthly close processes, financial statement preparation, and compliance standards.

• Capability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex client engagements.

• Ability to enhance team performance through coaching, feedback, and evaluations.

• Proficient in communicating financial concepts clearly and persuasively to senior management and client stakeholders.

• Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities with precision and attention to detail.

• Proficient in leveraging technology and digital tools.

• Possess entrepreneurial thinking and adaptability.

• Successful completion of a background screening is required.
