This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Implement, document, and uphold internal controls to protect enterprise assets.

• Enhance closing and reporting processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.

• Verify that accounting practices comply with GAAP, including assessments of stipends, patient accounts receivable, payroll, liabilities, and ownership equity.

• Generate financial statements based on GAAP principles, along with departmental and practice income statements and balance sheets.

• Convert GAAP-based medical group statements to cash basis for distribution and tax return preparation.

• Present financial data to the CFO, finance leaders, the audit committee, board of directors, and C-suite executives.

• Calculate cash- and accrual-basis medical group net income for profit distribution percentages and partner allocations.

• Monitor the financial condition through audits and assist external auditors.

• Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

• Maintain supporting documentation for balance sheet accounts and ensure timely reconciliations.

• Review monthly accounting close and operational results.

• Oversee and manage expense allocations across entities and departments.

• Facilitate the annual cash-basis financial statement “soft-landing,” profit distribution percentage determination, and qualified earnings analysis.

• Review and validate qualified earnings calculations based on partnership agreements and board policies.

• Examine corporate and partnership tax returns prepared by the tax advisor.

• Develop tax strategies with the tax advisor and present them to the CFO annually.

• Provide information for and understand composite partnership tax filings.

• Review state and local tax issues and formulate state-specific tax strategies with the tax advisor.

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal obligations.

• Review financial information necessary for corporate and partnership tax returns.

• Review tax returns generated internally for corporate and partnership entities.

• Review and approve annual tax-return engagement letters.

• Ensure timely and accurate payroll compliance for partners, advance providers, onsite employees, and office personnel.

• Approve payroll policies and procedures.

• Recommend an annual insurance strategy for cyber, workers’ compensation, general liability, malpractice, and EPL.

• Assess potential liabilities and confirm appropriate reserves are reported.

• Conduct high-level analytical reviews of gross-to-net payroll.

• Reconcile practice billing fees and malpractice charges against payments made to billing agents and insurers.

• Review and approve master lease files and self-insurance allocations for workers’ compensation.

• Align the goals of the accounting and payroll departments with the enterprise’s strategic plan.

• Mentor, guide, and develop staff while evaluating their performance and career paths.

• Approve hiring and termination decisions within the department.

• Present cases for salary increases to the C-suite.

• Review and endorse staff compensation policies and procedures.

• Establish vision and direction for resource allocation in accounting and payroll.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 15 years of relevant accounting experience is required.

• At least 5 years of financial accounting management experience is necessary.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in the healthcare sector is required.

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Economics, or a related field is mandatory.

• CPA or CMA certification is required.

• Comprehensive knowledge of US GAAP is essential.

• Familiarity with the US tax code related to partnership and corporate taxation is required.

• Understanding of US auditing standards is necessary.

• Knowledge of Vituity policies and procedures and regulatory requirements concerning general compensation is important.

• Familiarity with concepts, standards, and methods for auditing compliance is required.

• Ability to effectively express ideas and convey information in both verbal and written formats.

• Capacity to stay informed about current laws, regulations, and emerging practices.

• Skill in developing and delivering effective presentations to diverse audiences.

• Ability to maintain flexibility, cooperation, and participate in cross-organizational performance improvement initiatives.

• Proficiency in using office equipment and automated systems/applications/software at an acceptable level.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the role.

• Proficient in reading, understanding, and communicating in English to fulfill job responsibilities.

• Ability to evaluate and present information in clear reports to Finance and Executive groups.

• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and/or statutes is necessary.

• Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook are required.

• Strong consultation skills and the ability to seek out information and offer quality advice are essential.

• Familiarity with insurance types such as workers’ compensation, cyber, malpractice, and general liability is required.

• Experience with preparing cash- and accrual-basis financial statements for partnerships is preferred.

• A solid understanding of the US tax code is preferred.

• Experience with Big 4 or mid-level accounting firms is preferred.

• An MBA is a plus.
