This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the editorial workflow for Future Caucus' Young Lawmakers' Storybank.

• Research, report, write, and edit around 12–13 narrative articles throughout the contract period on a biweekly basis.

• Discover and propose story leads from various sources such as video content, policy monitoring, news reports, legislative activities, social media, input from staff, events, and milestones of members.

• Organize and conduct interviews with young state and federal lawmakers from both political parties.

• Oversee the articles from pitching and drafting to revisions, lawmaker reviews, and final publication.

• Keep the Storybank editorial tracker updated with story statuses, sources, and publication schedules.

• Write across diverse content types including Anatomy of a Bill, Policy Impacts, Profiles of Effective Lawmakers, and event summaries.

• Verify facts in articles and adhere to AP style along with Future Caucus editorial and brand guidelines.

• Highlight notable quotes, moments, and visuals for social media promotion.

• Collaborate with the Communications team and program staff.

• Participate in editorial check-ins, edits, and consultations during core hours from 12–4 p.m. ET.

• Carry out other related tasks as required.


⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in features, narrative, or storytelling-focused writing.

• Proven experience in conducting interviews for published work and gathering engaging quotes and anecdotes.

• A portfolio showcasing published articles, newsletters, blog posts, or ghostwritten pieces.

• Capability to manage writing projects independently from inception to publication with minimal oversight.

• Strong understanding of AP style or proficiency in following a specific house style guide.

• Profound interest in and knowledge of U.S. politics at both state and federal levels.

• Ability to write about Republican and Democratic lawmakers with equal objectivity, accuracy, and curiosity.

• Self-motivated and exceptionally organized; able to handle a pipeline, meet deadlines, and communicate proactively.

• Capacity to maintain confidentiality and integrity while working with lawmakers and staff.

• Commitment to bipartisan collaboration and cross-partisan dialogue.

• Resume and three to five published writing samples are required for application.

• Flexibility to arrange interviews according to legislators' availability.
