This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Provide around 25 hours of in-depth and technical editorial assistance for Multilingual Learner (MLL) Early Math resources and related tools.
• Evaluate prioritized materials for organization, flow, readability, terminology, precision, consistency, and accessibility.
• Edit content substantively and developmentally to enhance organization, sequencing, clarity, transitions, directions, explanations, and the relationships among concepts, evidence, criteria, and guidance.
• Edit for clarity and precision by reducing ambiguity, unnecessary complexity, repetition, and verbosity while maintaining nuance and intended meaning.
• Ensure technical accuracy regarding mathematical concepts, multilingual learner considerations, evidence statements, criteria, scoring guidance, and intended interpretations.
• Identify and document substantive questions that need to be reviewed by EdReports content or subject-matter experts.
• Enhance consistency across terminology, definitions, directions, examples, language conventions, and explanations.
• Perform copyediting and quality control for grammar, syntax, punctuation, spelling, mechanics, usage, and editorial uniformity.
• Incorporate one comprehensive round of EdReports feedback and conduct a final editorial review as time allows.
• Deliver edited priority materials, editorial questions and recommendations, an editorial style/decision log, and the final revised materials.
• Participate in limited project check-ins or editorial consultations.
• Track hours against the 25-hour maximum, notify the project lead when nearing the limit, and submit detailed invoices.
• Proven professional experience in editing complex educational, technical, research-based, instructional, or similar content.
• Demonstrated expertise in both substantive/developmental editing and copyediting.
• Strong technical editing capabilities, including enhancing organization, clarity, readability, and language while preserving accuracy, nuance, and intended meaning.
• Exceptional command of English grammar, syntax, punctuation, usage, mechanics, and editorial standards.
• Ability to identify ambiguity, inconsistencies, terminology conflicts, unsupported wording, and subtle distinctions in meaning.
• Capacity to translate or edit complex ideas into clear, precise, reader-centered language without oversimplifying.
• Experience with applying style guides and maintaining consistent editorial standards.
• Familiarity with creating or maintaining editorial style sheets, terminology guides, decision logs, or similar resources.
• Skill in distinguishing editorial issues from substantive content questions that require subject-matter expert review.
• Experience collaborating with authors, researchers, curriculum specialists, content experts, or other subject-matter authorities.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to independently manage work, communicate questions or risks promptly, incorporate feedback, and meet established deadlines.
• Understanding of K–12 education and educator audiences through professional editing, curriculum development, instructional materials, education research, teaching, or related experience.
• Over 5 years of professional writing and/or editing experience, including substantive editing of complex, technical, research-based, educational, or similarly specialized content.
• Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and professional experience.
