This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee content strategy projects from initial discovery to final launch, which includes conducting content audits, gap analysis, and stakeholder interviews across various agency divisions.
• Develop information architecture and taxonomy for extensive WordPress installations.
• Collaborate with designers and developers to construct content models for custom WordPress blocks and templates.
• Draft and implement editorial guidelines that comply with the Plain Writing Act, Section 508, and WCAG 2.1 AA content standards.
• Strategize and manage content migrations, which involves assessing legacy content and deciding what needs to be rewritten, consolidated, or retired.
• Lead workshops and training sessions to transfer editorial responsibilities to client content teams.
• Utilize analytics and user research to back structural and editorial recommendations.
• Work alongside client content editors to streamline and organize duplicate or overlapping content while ensuring adherence to governance standards.
• Create and revise plain-language copy, as well as update outdated pages.
• Provide mentorship to fellow content strategists and related team members.
• Collaborate directly with government clients and the design and development teams.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in content strategy, content design, or a closely aligned field.
• Proven history of leading strategy initiatives rather than merely executing pre-existing plans.
• Experience conducting comprehensive content audits and constructing information architecture for complex, multi-stakeholder websites.
• Proficient understanding of WordPress content structures, including custom post types, taxonomies, and block-based editing.
• Demonstrated ability to write and advocate for content in plain language aimed at a general audience.
• Knowledge of Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards as they pertain to content.
• Experience in facilitating workshops or training sessions with non-technical stakeholders.
• Exceptional written communication skills, with the capacity to convert research and audit findings into practical recommendations.
• Self-directed and capable of working remotely.
• Proven track record of managing multiple client engagements simultaneously.
• Background in an agency, consultancy, or as a contractor.
• Expertise in content modeling and taxonomy design.
• Skills in information architecture and site mapping.
• Experience with editorial governance frameworks and style guides.
• Knowledge of content migration planning and legacy content audits.
• Familiarity with analytics tools such as Google Analytics or Parse.ly.
• Previous experience with government, public-sector, or highly regulated clients.
• Understanding of digital.gov guidance and the Plain Writing Act of 2010.
• Experience in UX writing or content design within a product team environment.
• Background in SEO strategy for large institutional websites.
• Experience training non-technical staff on WordPress editorial processes.
• Previous experience serving as a mentor or leader within a content team.
• Familiarity with U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) content patterns or similar atomic design system methodologies.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• Ability to fulfill additional requirements for applicable government contracts.
• Work authorization that does not necessitate visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• May be required to undergo a non-government and/or government background check or security clearance.
• All work must be conducted within the United States.
