This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Assist in the development and execution of Mears Group's ESG strategy, while also providing constructive challenges.
• Offer insights into the changing expectations of clients, commissioners, procurement, and regulatory bodies.
• Ensure that ESG principles are integrated into both operational and strategic decision-making processes.
• Deliver expert guidance on creating significant social value and fostering community impact.
• Aid in enhancing outcomes for residents, service users, local communities, as well as improving employment, skills, wellbeing, and social mobility.
• Support methodologies for measuring, evidencing, and reporting on ESG performance and impact.
• Contribute to environmental initiatives, including net zero goals, decarbonization efforts, and advancements in environmental performance.
• Provide insights into governance, accountability, and ESG oversight frameworks.
• Offer independent scrutiny based on experience in complex, regulated, and public-facing contexts.
• Participate in four committee meetings each quarter, complete necessary pre-reading, and take subsequent actions.
• Collaborate closely with senior leaders to maintain strategic oversight of social value, environmental performance, and governance.
• Extensive experience in ESG, Sustainability, Responsible Business, or a similar leadership role.
• Proven history of designing and implementing ESG strategies within operational organizations.
• Experience in complex, regulated environments with multiple stakeholder engagement.
• Capability to influence senior stakeholders and communicate effectively at the Executive and Board level.
• Demonstrated experience in showcasing the value and return on investment of ESG initiatives.
• Innovative mindset and readiness to constructively challenge established practices.
• Willingness to travel when necessary for meetings and events across the UK.
• Confidence and independence in thought processes.
• Ability to provide constructive challenges effectively.
• Pragmatism combined with sound judgment.
• Intellectual curiosity and a drive for continuous improvement.
• Previous experience as a Non-Executive Director is desirable.
• Familiarity with social housing, local authority services, outsourced public services, care, health, facilities management, or community-focused sectors is desirable.
• Relevant professional accreditation, such as ISEP or equivalent sustainability credentials, is desirable.
• Eligibility to work in the UK.
• Capability to pass necessary Background, Identity & Security checks prior to starting.
