Commercial Surety – Underwriting Performance Director

📋 Description

• Drive and enhance underwriting excellence within the Commercial Surety sector.

• Oversee account-level and portfolio underwriting operations with a significant degree of independence.

• Formulate, implement, and execute underwriting strategies in collaboration with senior leadership.

• Act as a technical expert and trusted advisor to underwriting teams and business executives.

• Lead underwriting initiatives and projects that align with objectives for business growth, profitability, and risk management.

• Assess portfolio performance, recognize trends, and take necessary underwriting actions.

• Engage in underwriting, compliance, and internal audits as necessary.

• Identify and address economic, regulatory, and legal challenges affecting underwriting outcomes.

• Collaborate with Product, Risk Management, Actuarial, Legal, and Claims partners to enhance underwriting quality and innovation.

• Mentor and cultivate underwriters through coaching, guidance, and technical support.

• Contribute to the creation and implementation of underwriting tools, resources, and training programs.

• Support agency engagement, market advancement, and key meetings through required travel.

• Ensure underwriting excellence, uphold standards, promote portfolio profitability and growth, provide technical guidance, and foster talent.


⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive Large Account Commercial Surety underwriting experience.

• Over 10 years of underwriting experience in the Commercial Surety field.

• Proven track record in leading underwriting strategy, overseeing portfolios, or driving underwriting excellence initiatives.

• Established leadership and mentoring experience, with the capability to influence without direct authority.

• Strong skills in strategic thinking, problem-solving, and execution.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a knack for collaborative work across various functions.

• Advanced proficiency in underwriting tools, systems, and analytical platforms.

• In-depth knowledge of Commercial Surety underwriting principles, practices, and risk assessment.

• Strong comprehension of portfolio management, performance monitoring, and underwriting controls.

• Awareness of market trends, competitive dynamics, and regulatory obligations.

• Capacity to assess complex risks and apply sound underwriting judgment.

• Experience in utilizing underwriting systems, data, and analytics to facilitate decision-making.

• Willingness to travel as required.
