This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Evaluate the most intricate and high-value life underwriting cases.
• Assess appeals, references, and reinsurance submissions.
• Ensure that decisions are in accordance with underwriting guidelines, mortality, morbidity, and product expectations.
• Offer expert judgment and guidance on escalated cases.
• Resolve complex issues for staff and management.
• Engage with field partners and home office personnel to gather information, address problems, negotiate appeals, and communicate decisions.
• Foster partnerships with distribution leaders, agencies, and field partners.
• Utilize reinsurance expertise in automatic and facultative reinsurance, treaty requirements, and reinsurance partnerships.
• Act as a trusted underwriting partner to Distribution and Field leadership.
• Keep current on underwriting guidelines, risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory mandates.
• Advocate for the adoption and use of modern underwriting tools and platforms.
• Mentor, train, and support underwriters in advanced financial underwriting.
• Monitor industry trends and share insights.
• Report to the Head of Underwriting Risk Management.
• Travel is less than 10% of the time.
• A minimum of 15-20 years of experience in individual life underwriting.
• A proven history of managing large and complex cases for high-net-worth applicants.
• Relevant industry education (FALU, FLMI, etc.).
• Specialized knowledge and expertise in individual life underwriting, with authority on complex and high-value cases.
• Demonstrated experience working within reinsurance frameworks, including interpreting treaty language, understanding retention limits, applying automatic and facultative reinsurance rules, and collaborating with reinsurance partners.
• Proficiency in reviewing complex financial statements, tax returns, and similar documents.
• Familiarity with emerging technologies (Electronic Health Record (EHR), GenAI, wearable technology) and concepts of behavioral economics.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship/support now or in the future.
