Coding Consultant, Outpatient

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Evaluate medical records and accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes.

• Sequence and assign codes in accordance with medical record documentation.

• Determine the appropriate discharge disposition.

• Abstract and input coded data to meet hospital statistical and reporting requirements.

• Identify opportunities for documentation improvement and address coding issues for follow-up and resolution.

• Maintain a coding accuracy of 95% and an APC assignment accuracy of 95% while adhering to productivity standards.

• Track continuing education credits to uphold professional credentials.

• Participate in education meetings and in-services sponsored by Datavant Health.

• Collaborate with co-workers, management, and hospital staff regarding clinical and reimbursement matters.

• Adhere to AHIMA’s code of ethics and all HIM Division policies.

• Manage high-complexity tasks and decision-making in a professional, efficient, and customer-focused manner.

⛳️ Requirements

• AHIMA certification (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC certification (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, or CRC) is required.

• At least 3 years of coding experience in a hospital or coding consulting environment.

• Proficient in most or all areas including Same Day Surgery, Observation, and Injections/Infusions.

• Skilled in most or all categories such as Ancillary, Emergency Department, Injections/Infusions, and E/M leveling.

• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

• Capability to work remotely with outstanding time management skills.

• Familiarity with computerized encoding and abstracting software.

• Must pass the annual Introductory HIPAA examination and any other assigned annual testing.

• Required experience in facility ED E/M leveling, injections and infusions, orthopedic, urology, pain management, cardiology GI procedures, and endoscopies.

• Interventional radiology experience is advantageous, but not mandatory.
