Coding Consultant – Outpatient

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Examine medical records and accurately assign codes for diagnoses and procedures.

• Precisely assign and sequence codes based on the documentation found in medical records.

• Determine the appropriate discharge disposition.

• Abstract and input coded data for hospital statistical and reporting obligations.

• Identify and communicate opportunities for documentation improvement and coding issues to relevant personnel for resolution.

• Maintain a coding accuracy rate of 95% and a 95% accuracy rate for APC assignments, while adhering to site-specific productivity standards.

• Monitor continuing education credits to uphold professional certifications.

• Participate in Datavant Health-sponsored educational meetings and in-services.

• Engage with colleagues, management, and hospital staff on clinical and reimbursement matters.

• Adhere to the American Health Information Management Association’s code of ethics and all HIM Division Policies.

⛳️ Requirements

• AHIMA certified credentials (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC certified credentials (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, or CRC).

• A minimum of 2 years of coding experience in a hospital or coding consulting environment.

• Proficient in most or all of the following coding specialties: Same Day Surgery, Observation, and Injections/Infusions.

• Proficient in most or all of the following coding specialties: Ancillary, Emergency Department, Injections/Infusions, and E/M leveling.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, capability for remote work, and excellent time management abilities.

• Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software.

• Must complete and pass the annual Introductory HIPAA examination along with other assigned annual assessments.
