Coder I

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kentucky.

📋 Description

• Extract information from service documentation and assign as well as sequence the appropriate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCs codes into billing systems.

• Ensure coding adheres to established guidelines, federal, state, and private health plans, as well as organizational and regulatory standards.

• Review and address coding denials effectively.

• Complete charge sessions in designated work queues promptly.

• Finalize documentation in accordance with current EM Guidelines for providers.

• Verify that documentation complies with Teaching Physician Rules mandated by CMS and ULH Policies prior to code release for billing.

• Ensure Advanced Practice Provider documentation satisfies payer-specific regulations before code release for billing.

• Offer insights and recommendations regarding areas of weakness identified in coding reviews.

• Report any trending deficiencies to the Senior Manager and Compliance Educator as necessary.

• Meet or surpass organizational standards for coding production and quality.

• Engage in special projects and undertake other assigned responsibilities.

• Maintain consistent communication on a daily/weekly basis with office managers, departments, and providers.

• Respond promptly to inquiries from managers, providers, departments, and representatives.

• Adhere to company policies, procedures, standards of conduct, and HIPAA privacy and security requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or GED/equivalent (required).

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) accredited by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) (required).

• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist Physician Based (CCS-P), or Certified Coding Assistant (CCA) accredited by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) (required).

• One to four (1-4) years of experience in physician coding (preferred).

• Ability to collaborate within a team environment and achieve monthly objectives.

• Ensure compliance with rules and regulations pertaining to coding.

• Adhere to HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times.
