COBOL Software Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kansas.

📋 Description

• Provide guidance and expertise in the development and modification of computer-based scientific, technical, and business software systems.

• Design, develop, code, test, debug, customize, deploy, and maintain extensive enterprise mainframe COBOL applications.

• Utilize the IDMS COBOL programming language along with IDMS and DB2 database products.

• Implement applications using COBOL, TSO, JCL, Endevor, CICS, IDMS ADS/ADSO, IDMS Utilities, and features of IDMS DC online.

• Troubleshoot production issues while providing software application support and resolutions.

• Take performance, scalability, usability, and security into account in all tasks.

• Collaborate with end users to identify new system requirements.

• Work collaboratively in a team setting and mentor junior developers.

• Ensure adherence to established development principles, standards, and processes for software compliance.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years of experience with a BS/BA, or 6 years of experience with a high school diploma or equivalent.

• Proficiency in writing, compiling, and executing IDMS/ADSO COBOL programs.

• Technical expertise in the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of enterprise mainframe applications using COBOL.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or a Green Card Holder.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance is required.

• Preferred: Over 5 years of experience with COBOL, VSAM, JCL, and DB2.

• Preferred: Previous experience with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

• Preferred: Cloud Practitioner certification or at least 3 years of cloud experience.

• Preferred: Experience in Java and web development.

• Familiarity with Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Test Driven Development.
