Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colombia.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and sustain AWS infrastructure utilizing Terraform.

• Create and manage Puppet modules for groups of EC2 instances across various auto-scaling configurations.

• Maintain and enhance Python-based automation and tools that support platform operations.

• Operate and refine distributed service discovery and configuration management systems.

• Oversee and optimize distributed caching technologies.

• Manage and scale the observability stack, which includes Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Fluentd, and PagerDuty.

• Engage in on-call duty rotations.

• Contribute to architectural decisions, scalability approaches, and the evolution of infrastructure for a substantial multi-tenant SaaS platform.

• Assess and implement distributed storage solutions.

• Enhance deployment workflows and release processes.

• Collaborate with internal teams on API agreements, integration patterns, and operational tools.

• Take part in incident response, root cause analysis, and improvements to platform reliability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience with AWS services in a production setting, particularly with EC2, RDS, S3, SQS, Lambda, ALB, ElastiCache, Route 53, IAM, and VPC networking.

• Expertise in writing and maintaining Terraform modules for production-grade infrastructure.

• Familiarity with infrastructure configuration management tools such as Puppet, Ansible, Chef, or Salt, with the capacity to learn and manage Puppet-based environments.

• Strong Python programming skills for developing and maintaining production daemons.

• Comprehensive experience in Linux systems administration, covering web servers, networking, performance analysis, troubleshooting, and systems tuning in production settings, ideally with Ubuntu.

• Knowledgeable in PHP-FPM, Varnish, systemd, filesystem mounts, and networking principles.

• Understanding of distributed systems concepts, including consensus, leader election, distributed locking, eventual consistency, and associated trade-offs.

• Proficient in establishing and maintaining observability pipelines using Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, or similar tools.

• Experience in supporting and enhancing infrastructure deployment and release processes within a GitLab-centric environment.

• Ability to document architectural decisions and articulate technical trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Preferred: hands-on experience with distributed storage technologies such as Ceph, GlusterFS, JuiceFS, CubeFS, or AWS EFS.

• Preferred: familiarity with etcd, Consul, or ZooKeeper, including watch APIs, TTL-based locking, and cluster operations.

• Preferred: experience with Varnish and VCL, especially in dynamic backend routing or multi-tenant setups.

• Preferred: working understanding of PHP.

• Preferred: background in designing multi-tenant SaaS platforms, specifically database-per-tenant models on shared infrastructure.

• Preferred: familiarity with Moodle LMS or educational technology platforms.

• Preferred: experience with AWS Secrets Manager, HashiCorp Vault, or Parameter Store, including automated credential rotation.

• Preferred: experience in designing zero-downtime deployment strategies for VM-based, non-containerized environments.
