Claims Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.

📋 Description

• Oversee less complex, straightforward workers’ compensation claims within assigned limited authority.

• Operate under the direct guidance of a senior claims expert.

• Receive and verify workers’ compensation claims, confirming policy coverage and acknowledging claims.

• Assess the validity and compensability of claims.

• Set reserves and authorize payments within the limits of reserving authority.

• Manage uncomplicated lost-time workers’ compensation claims under close supervision.

• Communicate updates regarding claims status to customers, claimants, and clients.

• Follow client and carrier guidelines diligently.

• Engage in claims reviews as necessary.

• Support claims professionals with more intricate or challenging claims.

• Undertake additional projects and responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and relevant experience.

• At least 1 year of experience in the industry.

• A current license or certification in Workers’ Compensation must be maintained throughout employment with CorVel.

• Required certification and experience in Oregon workers’ compensation claims handling and/or Washington Self-Insured Claims Administrator.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to rapidly learn and develop a thorough understanding of claims practices.

• Proficient in identifying, analyzing, and resolving problems.

• Strong computer skills and technical aptitude, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel spreadsheets.

• Excellent interpersonal, time management, and organizational abilities.

• Capacity to meet or surpass performance competencies.

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
