Chief Technology Officer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Identify scientists, inventors, patents, research initiatives, university spin-outs, and early-stage firms that align with our investment strategy.

• Develop and nurture relationships with universities, research institutions, technology transfer offices, founders, incubators, venture capitalists, and corporate innovation teams.

• Manage a pipeline of opportunities from initial assessment through due diligence, investment decision-making, and commercial follow-up.

• Analyze scientific evidence, technology differentiation, intellectual property rights, platform requirements, market entry strategies, scalability, and key risks.

• Oversee scientific, intellectual property, regulatory, technical, and commercial due diligence processes.

• Provide recommendations for investments, licensing, partnerships, acquisitions, incubation, or the formation of new companies.

• Define clear scientific and technological screening criteria while mapping priority networks for direct outreach.

• Implement standardized initial reviews that assess evidence, IP ownership, commercial viability, and associated risk factors.

• Evaluate commercial viability and recommend actions such as investment, licensing, partnerships, or the establishment of new ventures.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in sourcing scientific technologies, intellectual property, university spin-outs, or early-stage firms.

• Established and credible network within universities, research institutions, technology transfer offices, founders, or investors.

• Proven ability to analyze technology and platform requirements to assess investment or business development feasibility.

• Familiarity with patents, licensing, inventorship, and intellectual property rights.

• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to engage effectively with scientists, founders, investors, and corporate partners.

• Good judgment regarding confidentiality, conflicts of interest, and ownership of work products.

• Willingness to engage in calls across Asian and United States time zones.

• Experience in biotech, pharma, life sciences, medtech, diagnostics, deep tech, or other science-driven sectors.

• Background in technology transfer, external innovation, venture capital, corporate venturing, or venture building.

• Experience in supporting university spin-outs and advancing research toward commercial products.

• Business development experience that distinguishes scalable opportunities from those constrained by market limitations.
