Chief Medical Officer – Detention Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Deliver enterprise-wide physician leadership and clinical oversight for GWFS government healthcare programs.

• Act as the primary medical advisor for healthcare operations, quality, patient safety, compliance, and strategic initiatives.

• Create and uphold clinical policies, procedures, treatment protocols, and care standards.

• Ensure adherence to NDS, PBNDS, HIPAA, federal regulations, accreditation standards, and contractual obligations.

• Supervise clinical quality management, peer review, utilization management, infection prevention, patient safety, and risk management.

• Analyze healthcare outcomes, conduct mortality reviews, assess sentinel events, incident reports, clinical audits, and corrective action plans.

• Identify operational risks and implement enhancements to quality, compliance, efficiency, and patient outcomes.

• Execute executive site visits, operational reviews, compliance assessments, and program evaluations.

• Collaborate with corporate medical leadership on clinical, operational, staffing, quality, and compliance challenges.

• Represent medical operations in dealings with government agencies, contracting officials, accreditation organizations, and stakeholders.

• Facilitate audits, inspections, accreditation surveys, government reviews, and contract performance evaluations.

• Oversee staffing models and workforce readiness.

• Manage physician recruitment, credentialing, privileging, retention, succession planning, and provider performance management.

• Develop and track KPIs, healthcare dashboards, quality metrics, and operational performance measures.

• Prepare executive reports, clinical analyses, medical summaries, performance reviews, and strategic recommendations.

• Assist in business development, proposals, capture activities, program transitions, and healthcare growth initiatives.

• Advocate for professionalism, accountability, evidence-based practices, continuous improvement, and patient-centered care.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited U.S. medical school or an equivalent foreign medical institution.

• Foreign medical school graduates must hold permanent ECFMG certification.

• Current board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Preventive Medicine/Preventive Health, Emergency Medicine, or another relevant clinical specialty.

• At least 10 years of post-residency clinical practice experience, including a minimum of 6 years of direct patient care as a physician.

• A minimum of 7 years in progressive physician leadership roles, with at least 3 years supervising physicians, medical professionals, and ancillary clinical staff.

• Possession of a current, full, unrestricted medical license in at least one U.S. state or territory.

• Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association, or the ability to obtain it before commencing clinical duties.

• Current DEA registration, or the ability to acquire and maintain the necessary registrations.

• Proven experience in detention, correctional, federal, public health, or similar complex healthcare settings.

• Capacity to obtain and maintain government clearances, facility credentials, and contractual qualifications.

• Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.

• Consent to fingerprinting, background checks, and necessary security screenings.

• Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.

• In-depth knowledge of detention healthcare operations, correctional healthcare, and federal healthcare programs.

• Familiarity with NDS, PBNDS, federal healthcare requirements, and regulatory standards.

• Understanding of quality assurance, performance improvement, peer review, infection prevention, patient safety, and risk management.

• Strong skills in executive leadership, physician management, analytical thinking, decision-making, communication, organization, project management, and problem-solving.

• Ability to assess multi-site healthcare operations, clinical performance, staffing effectiveness, and compliance indicators.

• Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.

• Capability to analyze healthcare data and formulate strategic recommendations.

• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and exercising sound medical judgment.

• Willingness to travel extensively across geographically dispersed healthcare programs.

• Ability to remain stationary for 50% of the time and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
