Chemical Support Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish and facilitate an ESOH Emerging Challenges working group, which includes managing agendas, maintaining records, tracking actions, and ensuring follow-ups.

• Create and uphold processes for records management and information sharing regarding emerging ESOH chemical concerns.

• Evaluate proposed and final regulatory actions related to TSCA Section 6, REACH, PFAS, and similar regulations, while providing guidance on Army interests, applications, and necessary responses.

• Assist in the integration with Army installation management and weapon system acquisition stakeholders.

• Collaborate with the Supply Chain Risk Management community to pinpoint mission-critical chemical applications and explore mitigation strategies.

• Aid in threat assessments related to emerging environmental chemicals, PFAS, and the evolving landscape of U.S. and international regulations.

• Identify and monitor chemical presence and utilization across Army installations, processes, and systems.

• Gather and verify ESOH-related technology and material requirements from installations and program offices.

• Draft or assist in the creation of statements of need and associated documentation for RDT&E initiatives.

• Coordinate with the EPA and other federal, state, and local regulatory bodies as directed.

• Prepare briefings, information papers, metrics, and products for senior leadership.

• Review work for technical precision and compliance with Army quality standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, toxicology, environmental science/engineering, industrial hygiene, materials science, public policy with a chemical focus, or a closely related discipline; a master’s degree is preferred.

• 8–10 years of professional experience in chemical regulation, risk management, hazardous materials/ESOH programs, or defense acquisition materials issues.

• Proficient understanding of TSCA, particularly Section 6 risk evaluation and restriction, and/or EU REACH.

• Ability to interpret regulatory dockets and translate their implications into operational contexts.

• Experience in supporting DoD, Army, or similar federal chemical, ESOH, or installation/acquisition programs.

• Capability to convene working groups, manage documentation, and coordinate activities across organizations.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Proficient in briefing and writing for senior civilian and military audiences.

• Competent in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

• Eligible to obtain a Secret clearance.

• Willingness to travel as necessary.

• Direct experience with TSCA Section 6 chemicals of defense interest, EPA coordination, or DoD Chemical and Material Risk Management Program support is preferred.

• Familiarity with PFAS as an emerging chemical, materials substitution, or compliance issue is preferred.

• Understanding of Army or DoD acquisition and product support processes is preferred.

• Experience in supply chain risk management, critical chemical mapping, or authorized use/substitution analysis is preferred.

• Proven experience in developing RDT&E statements of need, requirements documents, or similar S&T tasking products is preferred.

• Knowledge of OSHA/Army occupational exposure issues and installation hazardous materials systems is preferred.

• Professional credentials such as CHMM, CIH, CSP, PE, or similar are preferred.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Power BI, Visio, and other collaboration tools is preferred.
