This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.
• Design, develop, and execute educational programs on clinical documentation for providers, APPs, and clinical staff.
• Facilitate individual and group training sessions focused on improving documentation practices.
• Support the onboarding of new providers with education and training resources for Inpatient and Outpatient CDI.
• Deliver continuous education to CDI Specialists regarding documentation standards, regulations, and chart review processes.
• Guide CDI Specialists and create a CDI apprenticeship/orientation program that includes auditing, mentoring, and educational modules.
• Analyze data to pinpoint areas that necessitate enhanced education for providers and staff.
• Act as a knowledgeable CDI resource for CDI specialists, coders, revenue cycle teams, and specialty groups.
• Advocate for compliance with CMS, Medicare documentation standards, third-party payer requirements, LCDs, NCDs, and coding and billing regulations.
• Engage in evaluating and enhancing services and regulatory compliance, reporting findings to relevant administrative levels.
• Conduct quarterly quality assurance audits of CDI workflows and collaborate with the CDI Manager on educational opportunities.
• Serve as a super user for CDI-related EHR systems and oversee EMR data governance.
• Revise policies and procedures and conduct in-service training for staff on significant updates.
• Communicate with CDI personnel, leadership, coding leadership, medical staff, medical directors, physician advisors, department chairs, department administrators, and Population Health.
• Identify vague documentation and enhance documentation templates that support clinical protocols.
• Assist the CDI team, providers, and stakeholders in achieving revenue, quality, and productivity objectives.
• Support denial management, the development of educational programs, system upgrade testing, and the implementation of new systems.
• Graduate of a Health Information Technology (HIT) program or equivalent, holding an RHIT or RHIA certification, OR possess a current Registered Nurse license, OR current Licensed Practical Nurse license.
• Must secure CDIP through AHIMA or CCDS through ACDIS within one year of employment.
• Seven years of inpatient acute care experience required for RN candidates.
• Eight years of clinical experience in an acute care environment required for LPN candidates.
• Seven years of inpatient acute care hospital coding experience necessary for HIT/RHIT/RHIA candidates.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management, Nursing, or a related healthcare field is preferred.
• CCDS-O certification is preferred.
• Previous experience in supervisory or project management roles is preferred.
• Familiarity with healthcare compliance, revenue cycle operations, and auditing methodologies is essential.
• Capable of mentoring, educating, and training others effectively.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Proficient in office software applications.
• Ability to assess complex data and reports efficiently.
• Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Competence in meeting quality and productivity benchmarks.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress and critical situations.
• Capacity to maintain precision during interruptions.
• Independent decision-making skills are required.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management abilities.
• Flexibility to adapt to changes in the workplace and assignments.
• Capability to sit for extended periods, with normal visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity for operating computers and office equipment.
• Travel may be required.
• Full-time schedule of 40 hours per week.
