This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.
• Design, develop, and execute educational programs focused on clinical documentation for providers, APPs, and clinical personnel.
• Facilitate both individual and group training sessions aimed at enhancing documentation improvement initiatives.
• Assist with the onboarding of new providers by providing inpatient and outpatient CDI education and training resources.
• Deliver continuous education to CDI Specialists regarding documentation guidelines, regulations, and chart review processes.
• Guide CDI Specialists and create a CDI apprenticeship/orientation program that includes auditing, mentoring, and educational modules.
• Analyze data to pinpoint areas that necessitate enhanced education for providers and staff.
• Act as a CDI expert resource for CDI specialists, coders, revenue cycle teams, and specialized groups.
• Advocate compliance with CMS, Medicare documentation, third-party payer, LCD, NCD, coding, and billing standards.
• Engage in the evaluation and enhancement of services and regulatory compliance; communicate findings to relevant administrators.
• Organize quarterly quality assurance audits and team up with the CDI Manager to explore educational opportunities.
• Serve as a super user for CDI-related EHR systems, ensuring accurate documentation and EMR data governance.
• Revise policies and procedures and conduct in-service training for staff on any changes made.
• Maintain communication with CDI staff and leadership, coding leaders, medical personnel, medical directors, physician advisors, department chairs, administrators, and Population Health.
• Recognize nonspecific documentation and enhance documentation templates that support clinical protocols.
• Graduate from a Health Information Technology (HIT) program or equivalent, holding RHIT or RHIA credentials, OR possess a current Registered Nurse (RN) license, OR hold a current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
• Obtain CDIP through AHIMA or CCDS through ACDIS within one year from the date of hire.
• For RN pathway: seven years of experience in an inpatient acute care environment.
• For LPN pathway: eight years of clinical experience within an acute care setting.
• For HIT/RHIT/RHIA pathway: seven years of experience in coding for inpatient acute care hospitals.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management, Nursing, or a related healthcare discipline is preferred.
• CCDS-O certification is preferred.
• Previous experience in a supervisory or project management role is preferred.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.
• Familiarity with provider healthcare compliance, revenue cycle processes, and auditing techniques is required.
• Capability to mentor, educate, and train others effectively.
• Must meet quality and productivity benchmarks.
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is essential.
• Possess analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time management abilities.
• Proficient in standard office software applications.
• Ability to analyze complex data and reports effectively.
• Capable of sitting for extended periods and operating computer and office equipment.
• Travel may be required.
• Full-time work schedule of 40 hours per week.
