📋 Description

• Compose two to four original articles weekly that cover the West Coast real estate market, with an emphasis on Los Angeles and San Francisco.

• Develop comprehensive features for The Real Deal’s monthly publication.

• Edit significant market stories, including urgent news and online features.

• Facilitate daily news meetings for a team of three reporters based in California.

• Oversee coverage and guide reporters toward critical stories.

• Collaborate with the New York headquarters to ensure alignment with editorial goals.

• Occasionally write approximately 2,000-word articles for the national monthly magazine.

• Assist in shaping and directing coverage of the real estate sector.

• Mentor and enhance the skills of other reporters.

• Proven writing, interviewing, and reporting abilities.

• Capability to produce clean, well-structured, and accurate copy within deadlines, ranging from urgent news to extensive features and investigations.

• Proficient in writing with a distinct voice and authority.

• Quick adaptability to learn about a complex financial sector, including sourcing within the industry and understanding the intricacies of residential and commercial real estate and development.

• Ability to lead a team, guiding reporters toward significant stories, recognizing key narratives, and offering both conceptual feedback on ideas and practical edits on submitted drafts.

• Knowledge of and commitment to journalistic standards, ethics, and protocols.

• Capacity to manage and prioritize multiple assignments effectively.

• Experience in conducting on-camera interviews, hosting TRD videos, and moderating live events is an advantage.

• Background in business journalism.

• Proficiency in breaking news, developing sources, pitching story concepts, and producing clear copy under deadlines.
