Biologist – On-Call

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Perform biological compliance monitoring throughout ongoing construction projects

• Oversee protocol and pre-construction assessments for special-status wildlife and nesting birds

• Create technical reports that document findings from surveys and monitoring activities

• Compile biological technical reports and prepare permit application packages as necessary

• Foster relationships with AECOM, clients, and construction teams

• Maintain organized project files and monitor project timelines

• Encourage a culture of safety and compliance with Safe Work Plans

• Conduct field assignments locally for extended durations

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (biology, ecology, etc.)

• More than 4 years of pertinent experience or proven equivalent experience and/or education in biological surveys and monitoring within Central California

• A valid driver's license

• Capability to successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check as per company policy

• US Citizenship is mandatory

• Comprehensive knowledge of California wildlife, including special-status and protected species

• Proven experience in conducting surveys, monitoring, handling, relocation/translocation, and compliance support

• Specialized knowledge and/or permits for specific species such as the Quino checkerspot butterfly, Stephens’ kangaroo rat, western spadefoot, and Crotch’s bumble bee

• Skills in identifying Central Coast California plant species

• Familiarity with aquatic resource delineations, California Coastal Commission permitting/ESHA analysis, and transportation projects

• Proficient understanding of ESA, CESA, NEPA, CEQA, and Clean Water Act regulations

• Exceptional skills in technical writing, verbal communication, organization, and project management

• Ability to juggle multiple priorities, maintain meticulous attention to detail, and adapt in a dynamic work environment
