Biologist – On-Call

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Perform biological compliance assessments during ongoing construction projects.

• Lead protocols and pre-construction evaluations for wildlife that are of special status and nesting birds.

• Create technical documents that record findings from surveys and monitoring activities.

• Generate biological technical reports and permit application packages as required.

• Cultivate and sustain relationships with AECOM, clients, and construction teams.

• Arrange project documentation and monitor project timelines.

• Foster a culture of safety and ensure compliance with Safe Work Plans.

• Engage in field assignments locally for extended durations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (biology, ecology, etc.).

• Minimum of 4 years of pertinent experience or a proven equivalency of experience and/or education in biological surveys and monitoring in central California.

• Possession of a valid driver's license.

• Capability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check in accordance with company policies.

• US Citizenship is mandatory.

• Comprehensive knowledge of California wildlife, including species that are special status and protected.

• Experience in conducting surveys, monitoring, handling, relocation/translocation, and compliance support.

• Specialized knowledge and/or permits for specific species such as the Quino checkerspot butterfly, Stephens’ kangaroo rat, western spadefoot, and Crotch’s bumble bee.

• Skills in identifying plant species native to Central Coast California.

• Familiarity with aquatic resource delineations, California Coastal Commission permitting/ESHA analysis, and transportation projects.

• Proficient understanding of ESA, CESA, NEPA, CEQA, and the Clean Water Act.

• Exceptional technical writing and verbal communication abilities.

• Strong organizational and project management skills.

• Capability to manage multiple priorities, maintain meticulous attention to detail, and adapt within a dynamic work environment.
