Biologist, On-call

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Perform biological compliance monitoring during ongoing construction projects

• Oversee protocol and pre-construction surveys related to special-status wildlife and nesting birds

• Compile technical reports that document findings from surveys and monitoring activities

• Develop biological technical reports and prepare permit application packages as required

• Foster relationships with AECOM, clients, and construction teams

• Organize project documentation and track project timelines

• Encourage a culture of safety and comply with Safe Work Plans

• Engage in field assignments locally for extended durations

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (biology, ecology, etc.)

• Minimum of 4 years of pertinent experience or a demonstrated equivalency in experience and/or education involving biological surveys and monitoring in central California

• Possession of a valid driver’s license

• Capability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check in line with company policy

• US Citizenship is mandatory

• Extensive knowledge of California wildlife, including special-status and protected species

• Proven experience in conducting surveys, monitoring, handling, relocation/translocation, and compliance support for species across Central and Central Coast California

• Specialized expertise and/or permits for specific species such as the Quino checkerspot butterfly, Stephens’ kangaroo rat, western spadefoot, and Crotch’s bumble bee

• Skills in identifying plants native to Central Coast California

• Familiarity with aquatic resource delineations, permitting with the California Coastal Commission/ESHA analysis, and transportation projects

• Working knowledge of ESA, CESA, NEPA, CEQA, and Clean Water Act regulations and permitting requirements

• Strong technical writing and verbal communication abilities

• Excellent organizational and project management skills

• Ability to juggle multiple priorities, maintain meticulous attention to detail, and adapt to a fast-paced environment
