Behavioral Health Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nebraska.

📋 Description

• Act as the clinical specialist in behavioral health for claims professionals.

• Offer expert advice on behavioral health conditions, work capacity, limitations, impairments, and return-to-work possibilities.

• Analyze, interpret, and assess behavioral health clinical data to assist in claim management.

• Assess the suitability of ongoing restrictions, limitations, and impairment levels.

• Collaborate with claims professionals, physician consultants, vocational rehabilitation partners, healthcare providers, and various other stakeholders.

• Engage with claimants, employers, and healthcare providers to gather and clarify medical details.

• Educate stakeholders on the medical information required for claim decisions and behavioral health evaluations.

• Provide coaching, guidance, clinical advice, and referrals to both internal and external clinical resources.

• Manage a diverse caseload while adhering to productivity, quality, service, and timely delivery expectations.

• Identify opportunities for process enhancements and support departmental and enterprise initiatives.

• Act as a reliable resource and mentor to team members.

• Enhance personal expertise and disseminate knowledge on emerging trends and best practices in behavioral health.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of a Bachelor's) in Nursing.

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in behavioral health, which includes at least 1 year in claims, disability management (STD/LTD), workers' compensation, utilization review, and/or behavioral health nurse case management.

• Capability to read, analyze, and interpret both internal and external documents, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, policies, proposals, and standard operating procedures.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Proficient in interpreting medical information, documenting rationales for clinical opinions, clarifying restrictions/limitations, assisting with return to work, and communicating effectively with staff, management, and stakeholders.

• Preferred: Master’s degree in a human services-related field, such as social work, clinical psychology, or mental health counseling.

• Preferred: Licensure in clinical psychology or social work, such as LICSW, LCMHC, LPC, or LMFT.

• Previous experience in the insurance industry is preferred.
