Backend Software Engineering Team Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Guide, mentor, and nurture backend engineers through individual meetings, constructive feedback, and career advancement opportunities.

• Foster a culture where engineers assume responsibility, voice concerns promptly, and strive for continuous enhancement of team dynamics.

• Collaborate effectively with Product, Program Management, QA, Platform Engineering, and technical leaders to establish priorities and delivery strategies.

• Convert business goals and product specifications into scalable backend architectures and viable engineering solutions.

• Balance considerations of security, maintainability, performance, scalability, operational reliability, and delivery requirements.

• Decompose intricate initiatives into manageable increments while overseeing dependencies, risks, and technical factors.

• Maintain a hands-on approach by engaging in coding, design evaluations, debugging, prototyping, and addressing complex technical challenges.

• Promote engineering excellence through code evaluations, testing, documentation, observability, and secure development methodologies.

• Facilitate enhancements in CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment processes, and platform reliability.

• Oversee backend services through routine maintenance, upgrades, incident management, and reduction of technical debt.

• Review significant technical modifications and assist engineers in delivering constructive peer evaluations.

• Articulate technical choices, delivery updates, risks, and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial expertise in developing and supporting backend services in live environments.

• Proficient in Python development.

• Demonstrated experience in building and sustaining applications using Django.

• Familiarity with Flask or FastAPI.

• Previous experience in leading, mentoring, or managing software engineers.

• Proven ability to transform complex or vague requirements into effective technical results.

• Strong skills in stakeholder management and communication.

• Experience in designing scalable APIs and backend systems.

• Comprehensive understanding of REST principles, API standards, and API documentation.

• Solid knowledge of relational databases and data modeling.

• Experience with authentication, authorization, single sign-on, and secure API design practices.

• Familiarity with implementing software testing and quality assurance practices.

• Competence in diagnosing and resolving issues across applications, databases, infrastructure, networking, and production settings.

• Experience with cloud-based systems, preferably AWS.

• Strong grasp of backend security vulnerabilities and effective mitigation strategies.

• Excellent judgment, problem-solving skills, and decision-making abilities.
