Backend Engineer – Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and manage essential services that drive an enterprise AI platform.

• Contribute to the AI gateway, orchestration layer, entitlement mechanisms, tenancy model, data access patterns, integration frameworks, APIs, and platform services.

• Take ownership of services from inception through design and implementation, including testing, deployment, reliability, and support.

• Utilize principles of distributed systems, comprehend failure modes, establish clear boundaries, and make practical trade-offs for platform APIs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in building and managing production backend, API, or distributed platform services.

• Strong software engineering capabilities with a focus on creating reliable, testable, and maintainable services.

• Familiarity with AI gateways, orchestration, entitlements, tenancy, metering, quotas, or comparable platform functionalities.

• Proficiency in designing APIs and developer experiences for both internal and external users.

• Experience with multi-tenant systems, tenant isolation, service boundaries, and platform-level enforcement strategies.

• Background in developing integration frameworks, connector patterns, governed data access, or reliable data on-ramps.

• Comprehensive understanding of retries, partial failures, consistency, idempotency, back-pressure, and operational failure modes.

• History of taking ownership of services through design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and support.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills suitable for client-facing consulting environments.

• Pragmatic approach with the ability to deliver significant value rapidly while upholding engineering quality.

• Experience with C#, Python, Go, or similar backend programming languages (preferred).

• Familiarity with API gateways, orchestration systems, connector frameworks, event-driven architectures, or platform engineering (preferred).

• Exposure to AI, LLM, RAG, agentic workflows, tool/function calling, MCP, A2A, or practices related to the AI development lifecycle (preferred).

• Experience with event-sourced metering, quotas, entitlements, or billing-related platform services (preferred).

• Proven track record of developing enterprise-scale software utilized by multiple products, customers, or internal teams (preferred).

• Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools while adhering to strong review, testing, and architectural discipline (preferred).
