Backend Engineer, Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Develop, construct, and maintain core services that drive an enterprise AI platform.

• Contribute to the AI gateway, orchestration layer, entitlement systems, tenancy models, data access patterns, integration frameworks, APIs, and various platform services.

• Take ownership of services from design and implementation to testing, deployment, reliability, and support.

• Create reliable, testable, and maintainable backend and platform services.

• Design APIs and enhance developer experiences for both internal and external users.

• Construct multi-tenant systems that ensure tenant isolation, establish service boundaries, and enforce platform-level regulations.

• Develop integration frameworks, connector patterns, governed data access, and reliable data on-ramps.

• Manage scenarios involving retries, partial failures, consistency, idempotency, back-pressure, and operational failure modes.

• Collaborate within client-facing consulting environments.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in building and operating production-grade backend, API, or distributed platform services.

• Strong software engineering capabilities with a background in designing reliable, testable, and maintainable services.

• Familiarity with AI gateways, orchestration, entitlements, tenancy, metering, quotas, or analogous platform functionalities.

• Aptitude for designing APIs and developer experiences for both internal and external audiences.

• Experience with multi-tenant systems, ensuring tenant isolation, establishing service boundaries, and implementing platform-level enforcement patterns.

• Background in constructing integration frameworks, connector patterns, governed data access, or reliable data on-ramps.

• Solid understanding of retries, partial failure, consistency, idempotency, back-pressure, and operational failure modes.

• Proven track record of owning services throughout the entire lifecycle: design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and support.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for client-facing consulting settings.

• Pragmatic approach with the ability to deliver significant value promptly while upholding engineering quality.

• Experience with C#, Python, Go, or similar backend programming languages is preferred.

• Familiarity with API gateways, orchestration systems, connector frameworks, event-driven architectures, or platform engineering is preferred.

• Experience with AI, LLM, RAG, agentic workflows, tool/function calling, MCP, A2A, or practices related to the AI development lifecycle is preferred.

• Background in event-sourced metering, quotas, entitlements, or billing-centric platform services is preferred.

• Experience in developing enterprise-scale software utilized by multiple products, customers, or internal teams is preferred.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools while maintaining rigorous review, testing, and architectural discipline is preferred.
