Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain backend systems for a real-time learning AI.

• Create and maintain APIs and data pipelines that link live user and merchant activities to self-learning systems.

• Make direct contributions to the real-time learning engine.

• Advocate for AI-assisted coding, efficient CI/CD processes, and enhanced QA practices.

• Take ownership of production deployments, analyze logs and traces, determine root causes, and enhance testing protocols.

• Make strategic choices that influence the core architecture.

• Work in collaboration with AI researchers, software engineers, as well as sales and marketing teams.

• Oversee multiple simultaneous agentic coding sessions.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in building and maintaining production backend systems.

• Hands-on daily experience with agentic AI coding tools, and comfortable managing several parallel sessions.

• Proven experience in developing APIs and data pipelines that connect live systems to downstream analytics or ML systems.

• Proficient in picking up any programming language; typically Python, SQL, TypeScript, and React.

• Capable of quickly becoming effective in a complex, unfamiliar codebase.

• Collaborative in shared contexts and problem framing; self-sufficient at the coding level.

• Strong mathematical or analytical background.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and GCP.

• Experience with ClickHouse queries and optimization.

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment.

• Knowledge or empathy for the e-commerce industry.

• Experience working cross-functionally with sales and marketing, including hands-on customer integrations.

• Must not require sponsorship from Product Genius for a visa, as the company is currently not sponsoring visas.
