This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Examine multi-service serverless applications developed on AWS
• Evaluate service choices, integration patterns, and architectural compromises
• Identify flawed assumptions or vulnerabilities in serverless architectures
• Analyze infrastructure definitions created with AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or SAM
• Review deployment architecture, infrastructure reproducibility, consistency, and technical accuracy
• Assess event sources, routing mechanisms, triggers, subscriptions, downstream processing, and asynchronous workflows
• Evaluate IAM roles, policies, permission boundaries, and cross-service authentication and authorization
• Analyze failure management, retry strategies, dead-letter queues, timeouts, duplicate processing, lost events, idempotency, and recovery mechanisms
• Review testing methodologies and local development or emulation using tools like LocalStack
• Examine integrations involving compute, storage, messaging, API, and orchestration services
• Assess logging, monitoring, tracing, operational visibility, performance, scalability, and optimization of serverless costs
• Evaluate assigned cloud engineering tasks against established technical criteria
• Provide clear, written, rubric-based technical feedback that is backed by specific architectural, infrastructure, or implementation evidence
• Consistently apply grading standards and differentiate significant architecture issues from reasonable alternative designs
• More than 3 years of practical experience in developing multi-service AWS serverless applications
• Strong professional expertise with AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, EventBridge, SNS/SQS, and Step Functions
• Proficient in infrastructure as code using AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or SAM
• In-depth knowledge of event-driven architecture
• Strong understanding of IAM permissions and security boundaries
• Experience in designing and assessing failure, retry, and recovery behaviors in distributed systems
• Familiarity with LocalStack or similar local AWS testing solutions
• Ability to differentiate local emulation behavior from actual AWS service behavior
• Strong skills in cloud architecture, debugging, and technical review
• Excellent written communication skills and ability to deliver precise technical feedback
• H1-B and STEM OPT support are not available for this position
• Part-time independent contractor engagement
• Fully remote work within the United States
