Automation Engineer – Advanced Manufacturing

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Assist in automation projects from initial idea through to production implementation.

• Assess manufacturing processes to pinpoint viable automation opportunities.

• Create automation concepts, layouts, simulations, cycle-time assessments, and technical specifications.

• Conduct robot reach, payload, interference, and process simulations to mitigate project risks.

• Aid in capital estimations, ROI business cases, equipment scopes, and project documentation.

• Engage in vendor selection, RFQs, design evaluations, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and startup activities.

• Collaborate with controls, manufacturing, quality, maintenance, EHS, suppliers, and integrators to address technical challenges.

• Diagnose and enhance existing robotic and automated manufacturing systems.

• Record lessons learned and assist in replicating successful automation solutions across various sites.

• Support Automation & Advanced Manufacturing standards, roadmap development, and preferred technology strategy.

• Explore emerging technologies such as robotics, vision systems, simulation, digital twins, and AI-driven manufacturing.

• Offer practical technical support and knowledge sharing to site engineering teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Automation/Controls, Robotics Engineering, or a related field.

• Over 3 years of experience in industrial automation, manufacturing engineering, robotics, controls, or advanced manufacturing.

• Practical experience with industrial robots and automation equipment in a production setting.

• Capability to design automation concepts, cell layouts, tooling strategies, and equipment interfaces.

• Familiarity with robot or manufacturing simulation, offline programming, or digital manufacturing tools.

• Solid understanding of machine safety, controls, integration, manufacturing processes, and production readiness.

• Strong skills in project execution, problem-solving, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.

• Willingness to travel as necessary to support enterprise manufacturing locations.

• Experience with industrial robotics, with preference for FANUC; ABB, KUKA, or Yaskawa/Motoman experience also beneficial.

• Proficiency with robot simulation and offline programming tools such as FANUC ROBOGUIDE, Process Simulate, or Visual Components.

• Experience with 3D CAD, equipment layouts, reach studies, cycle-time evaluations, and design-for-automation methodologies.

• Knowledge of machine vision, inspection, and robotic guidance systems.

• Familiarity with automated material handling, end-of-arm tooling, fixtures, and sensor integration.

• Understanding of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, MES, SCADA, OEE, or manufacturing data systems.

• Experience with FAT, SAT, commissioning, production launches, and structured root-cause problem-solving.

• Lean or Six Sigma certification is preferred.
