Automation Engineer – Advanced Manufacturing

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in operations, engineering, maintenance, quality, procurement, IT, OT, EHS, and business leadership.

• Design and implement automation solutions for machining, fabrication, assembly, material handling, and other manufacturing processes.

• Assess manufacturing processes to identify feasible automation opportunities.

• Develop automation concepts, cell layouts, simulations, cycle-time estimates, and technical specifications.

• Conduct simulations for robot reach, payload, interference, and processes.

• Assist with capital estimates, ROI business cases, equipment scopes, and project documentation.

• Engage in vendor selection, RFQs, design reviews, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and startup activities.

• Collaborate with controls, manufacturing, quality, maintenance, EHS, suppliers, and integrators to address technical challenges.

• Diagnose and enhance existing robotic and automated manufacturing systems.

• Record lessons learned and replicate successful automation solutions across different sites.

• Contribute to automation standards, roadmaps, and preferred technology strategies.

• Analyze emerging technologies, including robotics, vision, simulation, digital twins, and AI-enabled manufacturing.

• Offer hands-on technical support and share knowledge with site engineering teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Automation/Controls, Robotics Engineering, or a related field.

• Over 3 years of experience in industrial automation, manufacturing engineering, robotics, controls, or advanced manufacturing.

• Practical experience with industrial robots and automation equipment in a production setting.

• Capability to design automation concepts, cell layouts, tooling methods, and equipment interfaces.

• Familiarity with robot or manufacturing simulation, offline programming, or digital manufacturing tools.

• Solid understanding of machine safety, controls, integration, manufacturing processes, and production readiness.

• Proficient in project execution, problem-solving, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.

• Willingness to travel as necessary to support enterprise manufacturing sites.

• Experience with industrial robots; FANUC is preferred, along with valuable experience in ABB, KUKA, or Yaskawa/Motoman.

• Knowledge of robot simulation and offline programming tools such as FANUC ROBOGUIDE, Process Simulate, Visual Components, or equivalent.

• Experience with 3D CAD, equipment layouts, reach studies, cycle-time analysis, and design-for-automation.

• Familiarity with machine vision, inspection, and robotic guidance systems.

• Experience with automated material handling, end-of-arm tooling, fixtures, and sensor integration.

• Understanding of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, MES, SCADA, OEE, or manufacturing data systems.

• Experience with FAT, SAT, commissioning, production launch, and structured root-cause problem solving.

• Lean or Six Sigma certification is preferred.
