Automation Engineer – Advanced Manufacturing

📋 Description

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout operations, product engineering, maintenance, quality assurance, procurement, IT, OT, EHS, and business leadership.

• Identify, design, simulate, implement, and enhance automation solutions across the global supply chain.

• Provide support for automation solutions in machining, fabrication, assembly, material handling, and other manufacturing processes.

• Translate manufacturing requirements into safe, repeatable, and production-ready concepts.

• Act as a technical expert in robotics, automation, machine integration, simulation, vision systems, and advanced manufacturing technologies.

• Assist with automation projects from initial concept to production launch.

• Assess manufacturing processes and pinpoint viable automation opportunities.

• Create automation concepts, layouts, simulations, cycle-time estimates, and technical specifications.

• Conduct robot reach, payload, interference, and process simulations.

• Aid in capital estimations, ROI business cases, equipment scopes, and project documentation.

• Engage in vendor selection, RFQs, design evaluations, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and startup processes.

• Address technical challenges with controls, manufacturing, quality, maintenance, EHS, suppliers, and integrators.

• Troubleshoot and enhance existing robotic and automated manufacturing systems.

• Document lessons learned and replicate effective automation solutions across different sites.

• Uphold automation standards, roadmaps, and preferred technology strategies.

• Assess emerging technologies such as robotics, vision systems, simulation, digital twins, and AI-enabled manufacturing.

• Provide practical technical support and knowledge transfer for site engineering teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Automation/Controls, Robotics Engineering, or a closely related field.

• Over 3 years of experience in industrial automation, manufacturing engineering, robotics, controls, or advanced manufacturing.

• Practical experience with industrial robots and automation equipment in a production setting.

• Capability to design automation concepts, cell layouts, tooling strategies, and equipment interfaces.

• Familiarity with robot or manufacturing simulation, offline programming, or digital manufacturing tools.

• Strong knowledge of machine safety, controls, integration, manufacturing processes, and production readiness.

• Proficient in project execution, problem-solving, documentation, and collaboration across teams.

• Willingness to travel as needed to support enterprise manufacturing facilities.

• Experience in automation or robotics within a high-volume manufacturing environment.

• Familiarity with industrial robots, preferably FANUC, with valuable experience in ABB, KUKA, or Yaskawa/Motoman.

• Proficient in robot simulation and offline programming tools such as FANUC ROBOGUIDE, Process Simulate, Visual Components, or similar.

• Experience with 3D CAD, equipment layouts, reach studies, cycle-time analysis, and design-for-automation methodologies.

• Knowledge of machine vision, inspection technologies, and robotic guidance systems.

• Experience in automated material handling, end-of-arm tooling, fixtures, and sensor integration.

• Understanding of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, MES, SCADA, OEE, or manufacturing data systems.

• Familiar with FAT, SAT, commissioning, production launch, and structured root-cause problem-solving techniques.

• Lean or Six Sigma certification is preferred.
