Associate Principal Electrical Engineer – Interconnection Studies

📋 Description

• Oversee interconnection initiatives across ERCOT, PJM, CAISO, MISO, SPP, NYISO, as well as utility and cooperative systems.

• Support clients from the initial stages of plant sizing and application submission through scoping meetings, study reviews, mitigation discussions, and compliance closure.

• Analyze ISO and utility study assumptions and results, pinpoint issues, and guide responses or re-study requests.

• Direct large load interconnection modeling, assumptions, and study sensitivities.

• Create steady-state and dynamic interconnection models in accordance with ISO and utility requirements.

• Conduct and supervise RMS and EMT studies utilizing PSS®E, PSLF, and PSCAD.

• Collaborate with vendor and user-defined inverter models, including model tuning and validation.

• Lead the modeling of grid-following and grid-forming inverters.

• Generate and supervise reports and presentations that outline studies, solutions, and the value provided.

• Manage Temporary Overvoltage and Transient Overvoltage studies for MV collection and substation designs.

• Oversee the technical and delivery performance across a portfolio of projects.

• Review and finalize scopes, budgets, and schedules, proactively identifying risks or deviations.

• Work alongside Business Development to create proposals for professional engineering services.

• Guide and mentor team members, including staff and mid-level engineers.

• Organize, schedule, and coordinate documents and activities for multiple major projects or an entire portfolio.

• Ensure compliance with FERC Orders, NERC reliability standards, IEEE 1547, and IEEE 2800.

• Prepare and approve model validation and quality test reports for ISO and utility submissions and audits.

• Review interconnection packages, modeling files, and project documents to ensure conformity and quality assurance.

• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ISOs, and utilities in the discipline.

• Communicate the impacts of studies, mitigation options, and schedule risks to developer services and design teams.

• Present study outcomes, technical recommendations, and trade-offs to clients and internal stakeholders.

• Monitor interconnection reforms, tariff modifications, and updates to modeling requirements.

• Innovate new techniques, tools, or improved processes for interconnection modeling and study production.

• Represent Revamp in industry working groups and stakeholder meetings.

• Provide technical advice to upper management and staff on interconnection issues.

• Fulfill essential duties, meet deadlines, and complete additional related responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in electrical engineering (preferably with a Power focus).

• 8+ years of experience in conducting power system studies with an emphasis on generator and/or large load interconnection.

• Proven hands-on experience with PSS®E, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN, and other relevant software.

• Strong understanding of interconnection processes across various ISOs and utilities.

• Experience in preparing interconnection models and supporting ISO/utility study review processes.

• Excellent technical writing skills, including the creation of formal submissions and compliance documentation.

• Ability to independently assess, select, and modify modeling procedures and criteria for complex tasks.

• Proven capability to lead engineering teams and manage client relationships across multiple concurrent projects, along with mentoring staff.

• Professional Engineer (PE or Canadian P.Eng) license preferred.

• Familiarity with the components of Large Load models.

• Experience with TSAT / TARA is a plus.
