Associate Director – Corporate Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Provide legal guidance on issues pertaining to international business, aiding in the launch of new markets and the management of existing operations.

• Negotiate and draft agreements related to product partnerships, sales, marketing affiliates/partners, advertising, creative projects, podcasts, influencers, SaaS, and vendors.

• Ensure that agreements adhere to relevant laws, with a focus on global data security and privacy regulations.

• Assist in privacy compliance within non-US markets, including GDPR and local equivalents.

• Offer advice on product and process modifications and update corresponding policies and procedures.

• Provide counsel on marketing, digital services/platform laws, consumer protection, and trade practices requirements.

• Support compliance with health and telehealth regulations, collaborating with internal stakeholders and external/local legal counsel.

• Address employment and contractor legal matters, drafting and updating relevant terms and agreements.

• Enhance privacy operations, including vendor/partnership assessments and managing privacy-related inquiries such as DSARs.

• Assist with litigation matters and regulatory/government inquiries, coordinating with external counsel and internal stakeholders.

• Independently manage outside legal counsel while producing various legal work products.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be a qualified attorney licensed to practice in at least one jurisdiction, with 1-5 years of post-qualification experience (or equivalent).

• Preference will be given to candidates with UK or Ireland qualifications, although EU-qualified lawyers are encouraged to apply.

• Proficiency in English is required.

• Prior experience as a lawyer, ideally in-house, in one or more of France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, or Italy is desirable.

• Fluency in an additional European language is an advantage.

• Experience advising an international technology company operating across multiple jurisdictions, preferably in-house.

• Background in a B2C, online platform/SaaS environment, and/or healthcare sector is preferred.

• At least 3 years of relevant legal experience in consumer business, online platforms, and/or healthcare.

• Expertise in privacy, regulatory/government inquiries, and marketing/advertising law is highly sought after.

• Capacity to adapt to shifting priorities and organizational demands.

• Exceptional commercial acumen and a solutions-oriented mindset.

• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, evolving environment and take ownership of projects and programs.

• Willingness to travel to the San Jose, CA office up to three times a year, plus one company-wide offsite.
