Associate Counsel – Insurance Defense Litigation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Oversee and protect assigned litigation cases from beginning to end, including trial or dispositive hearings as necessary.

• Formulate case strategies and offer legal insights regarding liability, damages, and overall case valuation.

• Prepare pleadings, motions, discovery responses, briefs, legal opinions, and memoranda.

• Conduct and oversee depositions, examinations under oath, and other pretrial activities.

• Investigate pertinent laws, regulations, and legal issues to bolster case strategies.

• Collaborate with the Claims Department to deliver practical legal advice and recommendations.

• Represent GEICO in trials, hearings, conferences, and other necessary proceedings.

• Keep clear, concise, and professional documentation and communication regarding cases.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

• Admission to the Virginia Bar and active license in good standing.

• 2–6+ years of pertinent litigation experience, including insurance defense, civil litigation, and/or personal injury cases.

• Capability to uphold all necessary licensing and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements.

• Exceptional legal research, writing, analytical, and advocacy skills.

• Strong organizational abilities with the capacity to manage multiple cases and competing priorities.

• Proficient in analyzing intricate legal and procedural information and applying it effectively.

• Professional communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Willingness to travel as needed for trials, hearings, depositions, meetings, and conferences.

• Experience in civil litigation.

• Background in insurance defense litigation.

• Proven ability to independently manage cases through key phases of the litigation process.
