This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +5 more states.
• Identify, excavate, and document potential archaeological sites.
• Assist with Phase I through Phase III historical and/or prehistoric investigations.
• Adhere to GAI, client, OSHA, and relevant federal/state health, safety, and archaeological standards.
• Excavate, screen, and gather archaeological materials.
• Identify and document archaeological features and structures within project study areas.
• Capture photographs and create maps of survey areas, testing locations, excavations, and observable cultural resources.
• Accurately complete paper and/or electronic field forms.
• Record soil types using a Munsell soil chart.
• Utilize a compass for basic navigation within project areas.
• Uphold client confidentiality.
• Manage personal tasks effectively and meet deadlines and project scope.
• Maintain and care for company-issued field equipment.
• Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
• 1 to 2 years of relevant experience.
• B.A./B.S. Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, Historic Preservation, American Studies, or a related field; currently enrolled in field school; or possess equivalent skills and experience.
• Field-related experience or equivalent capabilities in excavation, precise note-taking and field form completion, sketch mapping, basic photography, and basic compass/navigation skills.
• Pre-employment drug testing is mandatory.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Steel toed shoes are necessary.
• Must acquire and maintain a basic field kit.
• Ability to comply with federal and/or state archaeological standards.
• Capacity to walk 8 to 10 miles daily, occasionally in rugged terrain, while carrying tools and equipment.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
• Capability to hike over diverse terrain while carrying up to 25 lbs of gear.
• Proficient in extensive digging/shoveling and manually clearing brush/vegetation.
• Willingness to travel up to 100% during weekdays and occasional weekend travel and/or work.
• Ability to work outdoors under varying and extreme weather conditions.
• Basic oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to follow directions and positively contribute in a team environment.
