Arabic Speaking Storytelling Writer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Egypt.

📋 Description

• Conduct interviews with community members, including organizational leaders, caregivers, staff, and, when suitable, children.

• Perform interviews in Arabic and create polished stories in English.

• Uncover compelling anecdotes and narratives from the daily experiences within the home.

• Capture humorous, heartwarming, challenging, inspirational, and historically significant moments.

• Craft authentic journalistic and anecdotal stories that reflect the voices and personalities of the interviewees.

• Naturally connect stories to the client's mission and vision without forcing any links.

• Document the organization's evolving history, operational challenges, programs, community life, and future growth.

• Gather stories from the home's 13 apartments and the broader community.

• Experiment with storytelling from diverse perspectives, including those of leaders, children, employees, caregivers, and even animals.

• Assist in establishing a consistent weekly storytelling rhythm for a Substack-style publication.

• Collaborate with the team to brainstorm and prioritize potential story ideas.

• Handle sensitive personal narratives involving vulnerable children and families with maturity, empathy, discretion, and care.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficiency in spoken Arabic with the capability to conduct natural, nuanced interviews.

• Strong preference for Egyptian Arabic; closely related regional dialects may be considered.

• Exceptional written English skills.

• Proven experience in journalism, narrative nonfiction, interviewing, profile writing, or human-interest storytelling.

• Strong interviewing capabilities to extract meaningful stories and anecdotes from conversations.

• Ability to balance serious topics with warmth, humor, and everyday joy.

• High cultural sensitivity and emotional intelligence.

• Skill in preserving an interviewee's authentic voice while crafting engaging narratives.

• Comfort in writing about children, caregivers, family situations, charitable organizations, and sensitive social issues.

• Capability to connect individual stories to a broader organizational mission without making the content promotional or fundraising-focused.

• A warm, feminine storytelling voice is highly preferred, but not mandatory.

• Willingness to occasionally visit the home in Egypt is a plus, but not required.
