This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain intricate Java-based applications and application programming interfaces that support the platform and its interfacing systems.
• Participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle.
• Create efficient, scalable, and secure applications that fulfill documented business and user requirements.
• Offer guidance and technical leadership to junior developers.
• Conduct code reviews and uphold development standards.
• Develop and sustain middleware and integration components that link the platform to interfacing agency systems and content, search, and messaging services.
• Identify and resolve production defects.
• Implement minor enhancements from the operations and maintenance backlog.
• Assist with version upgrades of application server, framework, and library components.
• Address breaking changes.
• Prepare release artifacts.
• Collaborate on coordinated releases with government data center and cloud engineering teams.
• Apply secure coding practices.
• Address findings from security scans and Section 508 accessibility tests.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in Java application development, including at least 3 years in a senior or lead developer role.
• Proven expertise in enterprise Java, including a modern Java Development Kit, Jakarta EE or Java EE, and an enterprise application framework.
• Experience in developing on a Java application server.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain RESTful application programming interfaces and system-to-system integrations.
• Familiarity with an object-relational mapping framework, Oracle databases, and PL/SQL.
• Experience in providing technical guidance and mentorship to other developers.
• Capability to obtain and maintain a Moderate Risk (Tier 2) Public Trust background investigation and a government PIV credential.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field, or an additional four years of relevant Java development experience may substitute for the degree.
• Strong preference for Oracle WebLogic experience.
• Preferred experience with Spring Boot, Hibernate, Jersey, Log4j, or Apache PDFBox.
• Preferred familiarity with Apache Kafka event streaming and Apache Solr search integration.
• Experience integrating with Documentum or Adobe Experience Manager is preferred.
• Experience with managed file transfer platforms supporting electronic submissions is preferred.
• Prior federal application development experience under a formal lifecycle governance process is preferred.
