AI Platform Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead the design, execution, and management of an enterprise AI workflow management platform supporting the Department of the Air Force.

• Design cloud infrastructure for AI workflow management systems within Azure IL-5 environments.

• Architect containerized solutions using AKS or equivalent platforms with IL-5 security measures.

• Develop PostgreSQL data architectures tailored for AI workloads.

• Establish integrations for Azure OpenAI, ServiceNow APIs, and DISA BCAP cross-boundary connections.

• Assess and integrate AI development tools into a cohesive platform architecture.

• Design API gateways, authentication and authorization frameworks, along with service mesh architectures.

• Set up RAG pipelines, vector databases, and embedding strategies.

• Create reference architectures for agentic workflows, document generation, and ML model deployment.

• Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems for platform health and AI service performance.

• Adopt MLOps practices, including model versioning, A/B testing, and automated retraining.

• Monitor model performance, detect drift, and ensure data quality.

• Devise disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

• Resolve integration challenges across Azure, ServiceNow, and government networks.

• Ensure platform scalability and optimize costs.

• Assist in building and leading an AI/ML engineering team.

• Engage in technical screening and onboarding processes.

• Set engineering standards, best practices, and maintain documentation.

• Promote collaboration between AI engineers, ServiceNow developers, and government stakeholders.

• Conduct design reviews and offer architectural direction.

• Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to adhere to Department of the Air Force regulations, ATO requirements, and compliance standards.

• Apply DISA STIGs, Impact Level 5 requirements, CUI controls, and data classification guidelines.

• Partner with government clients to translate mission needs into technical solutions.

• Assess LLM capabilities for RAG, document generation, and agentic workflows.

• Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions for government applications.

• Establish QA frameworks covering model, integration, and user acceptance testing.

• Oversee QA processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of AI outputs.

• Define success metrics and evaluation standards for AI-driven workflows.

⛳️ Requirements

• US Citizenship is mandatory.

• Must fulfill eligibility criteria for access to classified information and successfully obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Clearance, along with passing relevant background checks.

• 15+ years of relevant experience; a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field can substitute for 5 years of experience.

• Proven experience translating real-world use cases into deployable AI/ML solutions.

• Strong knowledge of Azure cloud services, including AI Foundry, DevOps, PostgreSQL, API Management, and networking.

• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, microservices architectures, and VMs.

• Knowledge of LLM technologies, RAG architectures, vector databases, and prompt engineering techniques.

• Experience with frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, or others in AI/ML.

• Understanding of API design, integration patterns, and enterprise service buses.

• Proficient in MLOps tools and practices, including model versioning, monitoring, and CI/CD processes for ML.

• Experience directly engaging with customers and comprehending mission requirements.

• Proficiency in Python and/or other AI development languages.

• Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools and business process automation.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Active Secret clearance is preferred but not mandatory.

• Experience in government cloud environments such as Azure Government or AWS GovCloud is desirable.

• Familiarity with DoD compliance frameworks, including IL-4/IL-5, FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, and STIGs is preferred.

• Understanding of DISA network architectures and cross-boundary connection needs is a plus.

• Experience with ATO processes and security accreditation is advantageous.

• Experience with the ServiceNow platform is preferred.
