This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Manage Epoch’s suite of AI automations, ensuring production systems operate smoothly, addressing failures, and retiring low-value automations.
• Develop automations for operational tasks, communications, and research assistance.
• Recognize the needs of colleagues and engage them in the testing and enhancement of automations.
• Assess projects by estimating their value to the organization to prioritize effectively.
• Operate shared AI tools, such as Claude in Slack, along with integrations, shared skills, and prompts.
• Evaluate new AI tools and models, recommending beneficial adoptions.
• Manage expenditures related to AI tools.
• Facilitate AI onboarding for new employees.
• Create practical AI guidance and provide individual support.
• Ensure the maintenance of welcoming AI support channels.
• Document automations for effective handover and ongoing maintenance.
• Ensure Epoch has control over dependent accounts and access.
• Keep the automations dashboard updated.
• Provide regular reports on workflow changes, affected users, and improvements made.
• Report directly to the COO.
• Assist researchers and operations personnel in utilizing frontier models more effectively.
• Epoch AI investigates machine-learning trends and the economic implications of AI, generating publicly accessible knowledge for policymakers, industry leaders, and society.
• Extensive hands-on experience with AI technologies.
• Proven experience in using coding agents to transform concepts into functional tools, guiding projects from initial challenges to deployment.
• Ability to convert needs into clear specifications and decompose work into manageable tasks.
• Comprehension of system design trade-offs and how integrated systems operate together.
• Product judgment that centers on user requirements, interaction design, edge cases, usability, and project scope.
• Resourcefulness and flexibility in addressing unfamiliar challenges.
• Talent for teaching and mentoring others.
• Capacity to set priorities and follow through autonomously and dependably.
• Understanding of and commitment to Epoch’s mission.
• Professional fluency in English.
• Application documents should be submitted in English.
• Willingness to participate in three in-person retreats annually.
• A background in software engineering is not mandatory.
