AI Developer Experience Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain PlanetScale plugins across various AI marketplaces, directories, skill registries, MCP directories, IDE extension stores, and AI application builders.

• Take ownership of integrations with AI coding tools, agent frameworks, and platforms.

• Observe newly introduced AI tools and guarantee an outstanding customer experience from the outset.

• Conduct testing of the PlanetScale MCP server and CLI across Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, VS Code, and additional clients.

• Detect and address issues in database creation, connections, migrations, and query debugging within agents.

• Enhance agent context through tool descriptions, skills, llms.txt, agent-oriented documentation, and actionable error messages.

• Improve answer engine visibility to ensure agents can discover and recommend PlanetScale.

• Develop and maintain skills for Postgres, MySQL, Vitess, Neki, and PlanetScale.

• Create evaluations that execute real agent tasks against PlanetScale databases.

• Evaluate agent performance and promote ongoing enhancement.

• Monitor AI recommendations for PlanetScale and assess their accuracy.

• Instrument and report on agent usage metrics, including databases created, time to first connection, MCP versus CLI usage, and session failures.

• Create demos and sample applications.

• Produce documentation, guides, and blog posts regarding database usage with AI.

• Develop videos and participate in conferences to share effective AI development practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Daily engagement with AI coding agents.

• Experience in building an MCP server, plugin, CLI, or SDK utilized by real developers.

• Background in software engineering with languages such as TypeScript and Go.

• Proficiency with APIs, OAuth, and command line interfaces.

• Experience in writing documentation, blogs, and/or creating video content.

• Capability to communicate with diverse audiences and customers on social media platforms.

• Familiarity with relational databases, including Postgres, MySQL, and SQLite.

• Experience in schema design, migrations, and connection management.

• Production experience with Postgres or MySQL.

• Data fluency, including designing evaluations and crafting dashboard queries.

• Ability to articulate technical concepts through writing, video, and presentations.

• Self-sufficiency, speed, and the ability to identify gaps and implement solutions.

• Curiosity about the AI tooling ecosystem and a commitment to staying updated.

• Bonus: contributions to the MCP specification, SDKs, or open-source MCP servers.

• Bonus: experience in writing agent skills, plugins, or rules files for Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex.

• Bonus: familiarity with LLM evaluation tools and agent benchmarks.

• Bonus: experience with AEO or GEO, or tracking how LLMs recommend and surface products.

• Bonus: a blog, YouTube channel, or GitHub profile followed by developers.
