Accounting Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes, which encompass the close calendar, journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and flux analysis.

• Uphold the integrity of the general ledger and manage balance sheet reconciliations, including fixed assets, prepaids, and accrual schedules.

• Investigate and resolve discrepancies in the general ledger and aged reconciling items.

• Accelerate the closing process by standardizing checklists, templates, and review procedures, while automating manual tasks, including utilizing AI tools.

• Ensure accurate revenue recognition across various sales channels, accounting for returns, refunds, and marketplace fees.

• Reconcile inventory, cost of goods sold (COGS), and gross margin, while supporting SKU-level margin visibility.

• Assist with inventory accounting in collaboration with warehouse and vendor partners.

• Oversee accounts payable, including invoice processing, payment runs, vendor tax reporting, and reviews for accrual completeness.

• Monitor for duplicate payments, assess fraud risk, and ensure adherence to policy exceptions.

• Reconcile accounts receivable aging and collaborate with Sales and Operations to address discrepancies.

• Track cash flow and working capital, providing support for cash management activities.

• Monitor and reconcile intercompany balances between US and Canadian entities.

• Act as a primary accounting liaison, working closely with external tax advisors.

• Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and board-ready materials.

• Support close analysis, variance analysis, budgeting, and forecasting tasks.

• Serve as the main contact for external accountants and auditors, managing audit and review timelines.

• Coordinate efforts with outsourced accounting partners.

• Enhance accounting processes, documentation, and internal controls.

• Maintain the chart of accounts and facilitate ERP migration along with other system enhancements.

• Collaborate with Operations, Sales, and Marketing to ensure financial clarity.

• Convert financial data into actionable insights for teams outside of Finance.

• Proactively communicate risks, variances, and performance trends.

• Ensure appropriate accounting treatment for new business models and revenue sources.

• Assist with ad hoc analytical requests.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

• 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally encompassing both public accounting and a high-growth company environment.

• Strong understanding of US GAAP.

• Proven experience managing a month-end close process end-to-end, with a history of streamlining or redesigning closing procedures.

• Familiarity with inventory accounting and complex COGS structures.

• Advanced skills in Excel or Google Sheets, including proficiency with pivot tables, lookups, and formulas.

• A high-ownership operator who is comfortable working directly with details and senior leadership.

• Detail-oriented with a focus on controls.

• Effective communicator capable of explaining financial concepts to individuals outside of Finance.

• Highly organized, able to manage multiple open items across various stakeholders.

• Applicants must possess legal authorization to work in the United States.

• CPA or CA designation is preferred.

• Experience with Canadian accounting, including ASPE and Canadian tax (GST/HST).

• Experience with multi-entity closing and consolidation, particularly regarding US–Canada intercompany transactions.

• Background in eCommerce marketplace or retail technology.

• Experience with ERP implementation or migration processes.

• Familiarity with using AI tools in accounting workflows.
